Calling my shot: PSU doesn't win this season

Props

it isn’t that crazy, but PSU just needs to perform as expected and they win. They are vulnerable at 125, 149, 157 and 197. If none of those AA, PSU might lose.

Also heavily depends on what improvements they have at 133 and 141.  As of now I see RBY and Nick Lee placing about the same as last year.  Lee maybe up 1 or 2 spots.

Quit hedging Jimbo, your boys are gonna win it again.

Pretty lame to walk out on a ledge you don't actually believe in.

I do believe Iowa will win.  I think they will have 8 AAs and 2 champs (Lee and Marinelli).  I have PSU at 6 AAs and 2 champs (Hall and Cassar).

It is crazy, but I am taking the field this year vs PSU.  PSU comes in second.

Another team (probably Iowa) will take home the team trophy this season.

1 doughnut to 2 cinnabons good enough odds for you?

Right--setting aside your usual gimmick, how do you get to 6 for PSU?  No AA's at 125, 149, 157, 197?

Yes.  I think all those weights qualify.  I think Berge at 157 makes R12 and maybe Conel too at 197.  At 125 and 149 they go 2-2 or worse.

Who other than Iowa realistically has a chance at beating PSU?

With RBY, Lee, Cenzo, Hall, Cassar alone they’ll surpass any other team that’s not Iowa.

Then they still have Conel/Shakur and a few other guys as well.

Ohio State, maybe even Wisconsin

I'll give you good odds under 0.5 AA's from those 4 weights if you want to make a little wager.

I’ll take that bet with the “good odds”

I'll offer $50 +200, under .5.  I.e. if PSU comes away with zero AA's from 125, 149, 157, and 197, I'll pay you $100.  If they get 1 or more you pay me $50.

I will bet you that PSU gets 1 or fewer AAs from those 4 weights.

And this costs you what to make this prediction?  Your reputation?

If he can't scrape together $50, I'll put him on a payment plan with installments.

At 5 points I would hope. I lost to him owe him $200 but he won’t give me his name and address to send a check.

Right now PSU has 7 past AAs that they are entering the season with.  3 of those are past NCAA champions. It would not be a huge surprise if any of those seven ended up in the NCAA finals at their weight.  In addition to those 7 the have one guy starting the season ranked in the top 8 (Berge), another who has AA potential in a thin weight (Verklaren) and one weight (125)where it appears they will struggle to compete well on the national level.  They also are loaded with very capable backups in most weights who could step in with a real shot at achieving AA status if their starters go down with a serious injury.  So I don't think PSUs time at the top is ending this year. They are still a strong favorite, with Iowa a pretty loaded team chasing them.  Of course that's why we wrestle the season and the tournament.
