Ohio State and Pitt

Recommended Posts

I would be mildly surprised if Pitt pulled off the upset.  They match up decently well though.

This would be my guess:

125) Heinselman dec. Fenton - 3-0 tOSU
133) Phillippi dec. Kinner - 3-3 Tie
141) Pletcher dec. Matthews - 6-3 tOSU
149) Sasso dec. Kemerer - 9-3 tOSU -- could see bonus here
157) Rahmani dec. Cleary/Mattox/Hayes - 9-6 tOSU
165) Wentzel dec. Smith - 9-9 Tie -- I think Smith wins this, but for arguments' sake will go Wentzel
174) Romero dec. Harvey - 12-9 tOSU
184) Bonaccorsi dec. Hoffman/Steiner - 12-12 Tie -- could see bonus here
197) Moore maj. Stout - 16-12 tOSU -- could be worse
285) Thomas dec. Singletary - 16-15 tOSU

If Matthews could pull off an upset of Pletcher, that would probably do it.  Then again, if Kinner can reverse the result vs. Phillippi, Pitt could end up in a 12+ points hole in a hurry.

If I'm Gavin I think I might try to start at heavyweight.

I would pencil in Sasso for a pin or tech.

I would be beyond shocked if Matthews upset Pletcher.

Rahmani could easily lose.

I don't necessarily disagree, was just being a bit conservative and giving Pitt benefit of the doubt with home mat advantage. I think Ohio State has greater likelihood of improving on what I laid out than Pitt does.

Any conformation that singletary will be wrestling in this dual? Thomas has a good chance at bonus if singletary isn’t the guy, that could be big...also wentzel is pretty tough he has a win over Braunagal from Illinois and he just majored Perez from a Campbell an NQ who just pinned Kennedy Monday that match should be interesting as well

Rhamani has some L's already this year.

He does but he could always hit one of those Iranian rolls and throws he does and it’s good night cleary

Is Wentzel healthy? I believe he MFF'd out of his last matches.

I'm pretty sure that Traub and Thomas already tussled this season.  IIRC, it was a closer match than expected.  Like 12-9 or something

Yea your right Thomas won 13-9 at the MSU open...didn’t realize that but that definitely hurts Pitt, they are gonna need atleast one pin in this dual to have a chance at the upset

Traub is a feel good story for the buckeyes.  Unheralded.  Maybe not even really recruited, and then putting it on the line and hanging with some really tough dudes.

125 - I could honestly seeing this go either way.  As a tOSU fan, I'll go with Malik.  3-0 tOSU

133 - Phillippi dec. Kinner.  In round 2, I think it's just as close.  3-3 tOSU

141 - Pletcher dec. Matthews.  Matthews is good, and Pletcher really doesn't light up the scoreboard.  6-3 tOSU

149 - Sasso Maj. Kemerer.  I see a major in Slammin'  Sammy's future.  10-3 tOSU

157 - Rahmani dec. Whomever.  He's just better than any of the Buckeye contingent.  10-6 tOSU

165 - Smith dec. Wentzel.  I think it's a close, controlled decision.  13-6 tOSU

174 - Romero dec. Harvey.  I think this could be a tossup.  Leaning Romero at this time as a fan.  16-6 tOSU

184 - Bonaccorsi WBF Hoffman/Steiner - I think the gap here is significant, and unless a Hoffman that we thought we knew shows up, or Steiner goes big himself, I see this one being tough.  16-12 tOSU

197 - Moore maj. Stout - Maybe even a tech.  20-12 tOSU

HWT - Thomas dec. Traub - Round 2 and another decision for Thomas over Traub.  20-15 tOSU

This is SUPER close for comfort.  Malik, Smith, or Romero losing would put this in big big danger for the Bucks.
