Darkhorses:

57kg - Vitali Arujau

65kg - Joey Mckenna

74kg - Carson Kharchla

86kg - Myles Martin

97kg - Kollin Moore

125kg - Kerkvliet

Likely to win this tourney?  No.

Capable of pulling a thrilling upset?  Absolutely.

Why not throw Johnni D at 57kg and complete your buckeye / former buckeye sweep?

Massa just wrestled 74 a month ago. What the hell do they serve for thanksgiving at that house?

And he had competed twice at 79 the last couple months internationally. It has also been rumored that he would be 174 next season due to weight issues, with Amine at 184. This doesn't surprise me, because of that. I wish he hadn't made the cut to 74 last month, IF this was the plan.

The other possibility is that he is nursing an injury.

I'm an idiot so take my reply with a mountain of salt, but my understanding is that OTT= the weight qualified at through Sr. Nationals.

The hypothetical question is what if he qualifies at 86kg @ sr. nats and then qualifies at 74kg @ last chance. I realize it is an extremely unrealistic scenario, but what else are message boards for?

I really don't know, brada. I wish I did. It would be something if we saw energized Massa from three years ago. If it was the cut that got him.

He isn't built like his brother. Taylor was broader and bigger up top. Going to 86 is a concern that he'll not be able to handle the torque these guys toss at him.

That being said he has Amine and Abounader in the room with him. He may have just felt amazing and not wanted to cut. I have been saying it for two seasons. I believe his cut has been a drain and a major factor in his recovery.

I don’t think he would be allowed to participate in the last chance qualifier - i thought it was only open to those who haven’t qualified at any weight.

A similarly weird scenario would apply to NCAA champs though, who qualify with a title and get to choose which weight they want to compete at for trials. Hypothetically, Spencer Lee could qualify for 57kg at Sr Nationals, win an NCAA title, and say he wants to compete at OTTs at 65kg. Not gonna ever happen, but I think the rules allow it.

Damn this is going to be a great tournament. Where are ...

Daton Fix
Gable Steveson

I know they are qualified already but one can still hope.

Also the world deserves to see Fix-Lee redux.

Why risk injury for a meaningless tournament? They are both qualified already for Olympic Trials and neither is scared of anyone that they could bump out of OTT.

Where are any of the Penn  State guys? I guess Bo Nickal is already qualified, but why not wrestle? Also, no Mark Hall and no Cenzo, at least not yet.
