Walsh Ironman

Based on the nationally ranked kids who will probably be wrestling at the Ironman in two weeks, it appears that the pre-season #1 team in the country, Blair Academy, could have 7 number one seeds. The #2 team nationally, Wyoming Seminary, should have two top seeds, as well as a wrestler seeded in every weight class! The 126 and 220 weight classes should be amazing to watch.

Pretty amazing how SPG has fallen.  They might only have 3-4 seeded wrestlers.

One of the best HS coaches ever retires.  St. Paris may not be the most fun HS or town to live in?  Recruiting and wrestlers dry up.

They still have some good wrestlers.

Pre-seeds are on FLO.

Hoping all the wrestlers from Cincinnati LaSalle show up.

Best tourney of the year IMO.

News from LaSalle:

"Coach will you have your full lineup at Ironman this weekend? "

"Full Lineup? No... The football team just won a state title on Thursday and the majority of our uppers will need some time on the mat before diving into that level of competition."

Congrats on the FB title!

3 or 4 seeded wrestlers at the Ironman means you have one of the better programs in the country.

It is actually just two seeded wrestlers.  Point being is that they were perennial top 3, now they are probably not top 25.  I get things change and school have down years, just commenting on where they are now.

That's how important Jordan was/is to Graham.

I think they have another ranked wrestler Alek Martin, maybe not competing ?

not a town many people wanna live in is true. Not in a major city and not a boarding school. It's like a monroesville, which had the stiebers and cam tessari and another guy and never heard from again - elite talent in those smaller schools just don't grow on trees and these days if your not getting transfers your not elite. Without Jordan why go to Graham ??

Yes, Alek Martin. He's ranked #1 at 145 in Ohio. I didn't see him in the pre-seeds.  He's a good one.

The other of the Monroeville Four was Chris Phillips, he was a monster. He just never panned out as a college wrestler.

Monroeville was all about those 4 wrestlers and only a real power during the years they were there (I think Logan is the oldest and the other 3 were all a grade behind).

Graham was a national power for maybe 15 years and, during that time, many of the top guys did not live in the same town as the school (not event the same county for some).  Graham has/had some type of open enrollment with some guys taking classes almost entirely online.  As others have said, it was all about Jeff Jordan and the following he had from running some of the top camps in the country for many years.  It was a unique and exceptional situation, not likely to be duplicated any time soon.

Tomorrow at 10am on FLO.  Best in season HS tourney in the Nation.

Only pre-seeds out as of now. Blair has 4 #1 pre seeds.

Voinovich, Gallagher and Shumate are all wrestling and are all Ohio State commits.
