Pico would have graduated HS in 2016. Retherford won his 1st NCAA title in 2016. He likely would have won (at least) 1.

MDogg 273 Report post Posted December 6, 2019 One major difference between those 3x champs: all but one of them redshirted their true freshman season. Zain wrestles as a true freshman before redshirting his true sophomore year. If Zain had redshirted his true freshman year there’s little doubt in my mind he would’ve been a 4 timer. Houdashelt beat Habat in the 149 finals during Zain’s redshirt season his true sophomore year. In fact I think there’s a better than 50/50 chance he would’ve gone undefeated in his career. This assumes he would’ve gone 149 as a redshirt freshman, I wouldn’t say the same if he would’ve gone 141 in 2015...a bracket Stieber absolutely shredded in his final folk tourney. 3 1 Antitroll2828, TobusRex, lu_alum and 1 other reacted to this

So, once he wasn't allowed on the wrestling team, he transferred out of PSU. Staying at Penn State and getting his degree seems to be the best option, Jenkins said, but he plans on wrestling even though it will be away from the Penn State singlet. So it was HIS CHOICE. He made that choice to leave Penn State. But also, that article is only from his perspective. It reports nada from the PSU perspective. Bubba was told he was headed to 149 that year, but he didn't want to go 149 and the head coach who calls the shots told him that was where he was needed. He skipped some classes, flunked others and became academically ineligible. Then when he came back he ballooned up to 165 for Mat Town which made 149 impossible thus guaranteeing the redshirt he wanted. Cael didn't want him to redshirt so he pulled these stunts. You know what happens when you mess with the bull? You get hooked. But it was always his choice to be a team first guy, and he didn't make the right choices. So go ahead and play semantics, and never once mention the context that Bubba didn't give to that collegian reporter. But neither you nor Bubba can change the history behind how and why he left PSU.
