Perry 1,190 Report post Posted December 31, 2019 It seems like everyone on the psu roster who has the talent has competed in a more difficult tournament than anything offered collegiately. Midlands and scuffle are shells of what they used to be and some weights are downright awful. I would say penn state is out competing other teams atm 2 Lurker and wamba reacted to this

TBar1977 3,828 Report post Posted December 31, 2019 I recall when Minnesota would attend the Scuffle, of course PSU beat them pretty soundly every time but I lost track of how many times before they and Cornell quit showing up.

I guess better than getting pounded by Penn State year in and year out. That had to be hard to take for those guys.
headshuck 2,197 Report post Posted December 31, 2019 It used to be easy to link to the NWCA National Duals results. Cael must have had those removed from the Internets.
russelscout 1,573 Report post Posted December 31, 2019 I seem to remember Iowa getting flack when Iowa skipped midlands in 2012. Now PSU gets a pass. Sounds about right.

Lurker 1,397 Report post Posted December 31, 2019 1 minute ago, russelscout said: Ok, by many then. PSU fans pretty much. Although I do have to agree with the poster above that their guys are still probably seeing better competition that they would have under a "normal" schedule. For just one example, who was Nick Lee going to see at the Scuffle, or anywhere else up to this point in the season, that is better competition than what he saw last week. TBar1977 3,828 Report post Posted December 31, 2019 Aaron Brooks wrestled two former NCAA finalists and Sammy Brooks at the OT qualifier. Cassar and Nick Lee wrestled as noted above. PSU wrestling does not need to apologize for anything.

According to some people it’s as simple as stepping on the mat that first round and then FF your way out to a solid NCAA seed. Brooks beats Weiler to break into the rankings at Flo at the lowly #25 spot, 19 places lower than Nelson Brands. Then his reward for beating Max Dean and some other guys at Oly Trials Qualifier is Flo kicks him out of their rankings entirely. Too funny.

Those are 2 pretty big wins, even in another style. I'm not too worried about it, Brooks will take care of himself in conference and nationals.

Its a joke to only go by results and not look at the bigger picture. 1 TBar1977 reacted to this
