Deducting team points?

Recommended Posts

Is there a limit on deducting team points in a dual?

A Coach gets called a few times - losing a team point each time. Then - wouldn't he be escorted out? There must be a limit, right?

An Assistant or two - same type of thing.

Maybe some wrestlers exhibit poor behavior, temper tantrums/whatever and cost the team points.

Is there a limit? So many and the whole thing is forfeit?

Could we see an Iowa beating Crabtree Corners Teachers College 60 to nothing(all pins) and the CCTC coaches and wrestlers getting dinged for 10 points in deductions - a final score of 60 to minus 10?

-1 for each person for unsportsmanlike conduct. 2nd for anyone is a point and ejection.

Coaches questioning rules is 2 warnings then 1 team point per.

I helped at the PIAA State Team event this weekend. In the one dual (cons semis) the one team was getting shut out for a while and then in one bout had two UCTs called- one coach, one wrestler. We use the Boutronics clocks tied to Flo Arena. I'm not sure if the clocks can show negative numbers using the console but the arena doesn't send the info to the clock so that score stayed blank until they finally won a bout where it showed 1.

2nd unsportsmanlike conduct outside of the wrestlers in the match is an ejection.

But according to the rule book, there is no ejection for the "control of mat area" violation, but is just 1 pt for each deduction.

So I guess in theory a team could "protest" the deduction of team point rule by getting 20+ control of mat area violations?

I don't know of direct team point deductions in other sports. Wrestling should avoid it; rather, points should be added on to the bout score. If you're violent, it's a DQ like getting pinned= an addition to the team score, not a deduction from the team score. The team did nothing. It was someone on the mat. BUT If the coach/team does something, throw a shoe or curse, then fine the school x dollars or forfeit the first weight class in the next dual. Leave the team score alone.

Once team points are earned by an innocent wrestler, another person should not be able to reduce the winning effort of others. If a man breaks a law, his neighbor watching and sitting at home doesn't get fined.
