Small world!

Many years ago at Jordan camp one of the counselors was from Carleton and Jim Jordan referred to him all week as the Carleton College commie.  Playfully.

That's a great story!

I went to JRob's 28 day camp the summer of '92, and Minnesota's heavyweight, who was a top 5 guy (Billy something), was my counselor.  As I was always reading during our (few) breaks, he called me Bookworm, but we ended up getting along pretty well by month's end.

Fast forward a couple years, and I arrive at Carleton as a freshman.  After finally finding my dorm, guess who's one of the people hired to help us move in?

Five minutes later we're wrestling around on the dorm lawn (with me all of 140lbs. at most), reminiscing about camp, with all the other freshman looking on, wondering who the two lunatics are.

That would have been Billy Pierce.

But Carleton is very much the definition of a liberal arts college....(I grew up in Northfield and like to poke fun :) )

If you grew up in Northfield, you'd know to be careful of claiming to be GreenandGold - there's quite a bit of Purple power in the area.

(I lived nearby, too)

Curious to know who your coach was at the time. First name start with an L or a J? Feel free to post or PM me.

Japan uses just a fraction of its coronavirus testing capacity

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-japan-testing/japan-testing-for-coronavirus-at-fraction-of-capacity-idUSKBN2150ZR

hmmm......so Japan is doing exactly the opposite of what every other country and experts are saying about testing. That's comforting...:X

If this continues and spreads, our athletes may not be able to get to trials and LCQ even if the events are not cancelled

The news says briefly suspended, not closed

Actionable intelligence coming in from Japan is - high probability Olympics will be postponed for 1 year.

I thought Japan was weathering the storm better than most countries, but it's hard to imagine that hundreds of thousands flooding Tokyo, from all over the world, wouldn't change that pretty quickly.

I seriously thought this would have no impact on the games a couple weeks ago. Now I don't see how they possibly go on.

there's no way in the world it can go on when people from all over the world are still being impacted.

I’m still not sure because I really think Japan wants the fat check and the “look what humanity has overcome!” message to be sent to the masses.

But...

Nike sponsors Team USA. USA track and field (primarily composed of Nike athletes) is calling for a delay. Last I heard, Nike runs the athletic world at large and if Nike can’t send Team Eugene then no one else gets to go either.

Here we go.  The end is beginning....  Canada is out.

https://edition.cnn.com/world/live-news/coronavirus-outbreak-03-22-20/h_900d0ae1312a00d90668a8cc8011dcb9

"Canada will not send athletes to Tokyo Olympics

Canada won't be sending teams to the Olympics this year.

The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) are also calling for the games to be postponed by one year.

"While we recognize the inherent complexities around a postponement, nothing is more important than the health and safety of our athletes and the world community," the committee said in a statement."
