How old are we?

  1. 1. In light of the Reactions vs Posts topic, I started to think that the younger generation is reluctant to accept facts or feedback that doesn’t fit their narrative. But how old are we really?

I started posting in either '99 or '00 at the same time I hew, but at the same time, couldn't get away from it.  I almost remember it being a forum on intermatwrestle?  Did they have one there too or am I hallucinating?

InterMat had one in the old threaded format. Don’t ever recall The Wrestling Mall having one. The original TheMat owner by Joe Lareau might have had a forum, but I don’t remember 100 percent.

I've been here for nearly 20 years as well when JTTS has his love fest with Mocco. BIG had his love fest with Nickerson, PSUMarty who hated PSU and Johnnythompson#1 (Stonebraker) you could almost hear him hyperventilating through his posts.

So I'm 50ish.

Going by those who posted their age so far, the average is 58.

Going by those who replied to the poll the average is between 42 and 49 with a likely true average around 45 or 46.

42 assumes everyone is at the low end of the range, 49 assumes the high end of the range and 45-46 assumes mid-point of the range (I used 74.5 for mid-point of the top range).

So how does that fit in your original hypothesis, tigerfan?

I am 47 and have been posting, sporadically, since around 2005 or 2006 I think (with a few variations of this handle due to forgetting login info).  Dustin Schlatter was a hot topic when I first started, along with the drama around Metcalf's first year in college.

I think I missed most of the Mocco drama or didn't care enough about heavyweights back then to pay attention.

Why did I re-start closely following wrestling and  posting in my early 30s after being away (mostly) from the sport since my first year in college?  My wife and I started having kids and spending way more time at home than we previously had . . . I imagine quite a few other posters have similar circumstances.

I'm 31 and while I don't post often, I do come to this site 4-6 days a week. During the off season, I make it to international board 1-2 days a week. I feel like I know a lot of you pretty well, even though most of you probably don't remember me ever posting. I have been coming here for about 12-13 years. I started when I was in college and a kid i went to HS with was wrestling for PSU. That all being said, I think the handle Lurker might apply to me better than it does Lurker.

USA Wrestling added a forum to TheMat.com in 2000. That's 20 years. I registered early when I was a college student.
I'm 40 now ... and it's weird to say I've been posting on this board for two decades. Yikes.

Or to say you’ve been posting for half your life (with the percentage going up every day).

I've been on here since about 2003.  I have a terrible memory so I may not get this quite right.  I remember when everyone would make funny videos and assign wrestlers to the actors and make up what they were saying to each other.
