RichB 227 Report post Posted March 15, 2020 Chuck Todd on Meet the press mentioned the cost to the economy of cities that lost the first round of NCAA-BB ($8M, Cleveland), Frozen 4($10M, Detroit), Final 4( $100M, Atlanta?) I am guessing our non event cost Minneapolis $25-50M(including the cost of tickets in and out of the airport, The normal 3 days plus tournament eve was St Patrick's day. Still we won't know if NCAA never reveals pre-sales of tickets. 1 TexRef reacted to this

Sure but what's the cost to the economy of 20% decline in stock market, banned international travel, reduced domestic travel, reduced restaurant etc business all over the country. Minny a drop in the bucket. If you want to make a difference think about how much you would've spent in Minny and invest that in stocks next week or if want to help Minneapolis directly find a micro brew there that delivers & order $1,000 of beer. That micro brew will spend the money locally thus multiplying impact in Minneapolis & Minnesota. Don't buy PBR (unless you are mFlap) that won't help. ;) Edited March 15, 2020 by ionel 1 fadzaev2 reacted to this
Broomstick 75 Report post Posted March 15, 2020 $25 to $50 Million sounds in the ballpark to me. 40,000 people sending $1,000 each is $40 mill.

Thanks for a non arrogant reply, Broomstick. Chuck Todd mentioned other events, and I was curious about where we fit in, I certainly did not expect a lecture from a couple of jerks. 1 Michigan wrestling reacted to this

Would think anyone traveling in by airand staying in a hotel for 3 nights easily hits that amount and even those driving in and staying in a hotel would get close with 3 (4 for many) nights + meals/drinks/entertainment. RichB 227 Report post Posted March 16, 2020 $290 for tickets $390 for flights >$250 for Minn hotel, 4 nights *every time I have flown to NCAA it was 4 hotel/motel night >$100 for meals (not counting $55 for wrestling club) ~$30 for program and mat radio Over $1100, in minneapolis Plus my flight in was early, out late, another $60------------- Sure you could drive in like most Hawkeyes would have I assume, Sure you could stay at Red Roof inn. But you could also spend $100 a day on food and drink, and be in a luxury box. ------------------------------ One reason I brought this up was, would this have been the most attended final championship event in NCAA (Bkt-Ball it was 2 sessions of a little over 72,000 each session, football twice was at the Rosebowl. about 105,000 I assume). I don't know what the college world series attendance is, I suppose that could be over 200,000, like we probably would have. Had It was right to cancel events that hadn't started yet. (I kind of think Canceling Skiing in the middle of the championship was not good. PIAA canceled 3/4 thru AAA swimming but canceled all AA swimming), Could be a lot of repercussions about NCWA going forward, With 600 competitors I think family members must have meant a couple thousand spectators. Did they indicate it's more of a temporary situation until this is done, then they can bring you/others back? steamboat_charlie v2 1,157 Report post Posted March 17, 2020 The local Minneapolis economy missed out on a few grand from me. The local gaming establishments, however, dodged a bullet by keeping me off their tables, so let's call it net neutral.
Lurker 2,039 Report post Posted March 17, 2020 I don't understand when someone is thinking something about those who are effected.....it has to be a life threatening effect or its not even worth thinking about. I don't get why you are not allowed to have thoughts/concerns for one group while at the same time having thoughts about a less effected group. Gives them something to gripe about I guess..
