Ok that's obviously not the guy from France.  Think I've seen something from this before.  But I see your point.  And he is addressing the wrong person.  I don't know what to think, but would hope and presume our top doctors on the task force are getting info from experts, not this.

This is the guy from France. Same protocol as the Jewish quack. https://techstartups.com/2020/03/20/coronavirus-treatment-breakthrough-french-study-confirms-that-a-combination-of-hydroxychloroquine-hcq-and-azithromycin-are-effective-in-treating-covid-19-patients/

Italy appears to have a much higher death rate than about anywhere else.  Perhaps due to older population, spend of response and lower quality & quantity of hospital facilities.

Italy has one of the best healthcare systems in the world. Which is one of the reasons they have such a high older population. Their healthcare system provides universal coverage and is largely free of charge. This means many elderly people with underlying conditions were able to live longer because of comprehensive care, but are more at risk of covid-19 complications.
Some experts believe the high Italy CFR as compared to places like Germany is their testing is primarily done only on the sickest of patients.

Good point.  Also appears Italy once overwhelmed had to start rationing the bed space etc to focus on who most likely to save.  One thing I haven't seen is info on how long on avg in ICU or on ventilator before recovery/release.

I may be 100% wrong. I thought I heard they are starting some chloroquine type treatments in NYC. Maybe even along lines of what these two doctors have suggested.

If they have, and this is as effective as they claim we should start seeing a leveling off or decline in 10 days I would imagine.

Obviously this isn’t a cure, but if 60-70% successful it could hold humanity over until a full vaccine is created.

You are 100% right, not wrong. NYC started a state-governed clinical trial of sorts on patients this week with hydroxychloroquine plus antibiotics (Zithromax): https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/coronavirus/new-york-starts-new-experimental-drug-therapies-to-treat-covid-19-heres-what-we-know/2341931/

Italy has hit its highest daily coronavirus death toll yet; 969 people have died in the last 24 hours alone, bringing the nation’s overall death toll from the virus to 9,134 as of Friday — an increase of 11.9 percent in ONE day.

969 Dead in 24 Hours..... Tell me again it's not worse than the flu.

China owns this 100%.

Relax, we will be at 0 by Easter.....

Death tally is increasing near exponentially. If you want to scare yourself into how bad it *could* get if the current rate continued, just extrapolate out. Average of 2.5x increase every 3 days by middle of next month = 2.5^(18/3) * 1,400 = ~ 340k deaths in the US.

Obviously it won’t get that bad because of the measures we’ve taken to reduce spread. The warmer weather will help too.

Did some food shopping at multiple locations for others this morning and the one thing that really stood out is the lack of protection between the cashiers and the public. Giant Food is the only grocery chain in my area actively installing plexiglas at the point of sale. Why not others? These cashiers are putting themselves at risk yet they come to work to do their job for who knows how much per hour. Shame on any retailer for not doing what is necessary to protect these workers.  These high priced execs should triple these employees pay during this crisis and it should out of their salaries.  I’m being light here but this really pi**es me off.

For Lurker and those who like to read coronavirus number porn, here's a feast your eyes:

I personally do not believe the Chinese numbers and feel the cases and deaths reported are mainly from Tier 1 and select Tier 2 cities, neglecting a high percentage of China's population. I also believe their numbers are conveniently categorizing many deaths to other causes to make the Covid-19 deaths look better.

The only way to look at these numbers comparatively country by country is to adjust them to the population of each country considered. The numbers above are really not that helpful statistically since each country is in many ways its own idiosyncratic system.

The numbers are terrible no matter how you view them. But Italy is not too far from its peak if you want to extrapolate data based on a curve fitted to historical data. The death toll curve is looking asymptotic to me.

The important thing would be washing their hands between each customer.  A sneeze bar has no impact on the fact the customer touched the boxes/bags/produce then the cashier does the same.  I quit going to Panera 3 weeks ago because they were doing nothing to prevent such transfer from customer to cashier back to next customer.  But this is also why many stores are doing delivery  or pick up at store.  But before unpacking wash your hands, after shelving items etc wash your hands.  Oh and with soap and water, you dont need to hoard wipes.

New daily WHO numbers just came out.  Italy absolute increases holding about the same but their percent of total seems to be going down, meaning increasing days to double.  USA new as percent of total prob still ~constant, so yeah without change NY quickly heading toward the Italy problem however we are prob well ahead of where Italy was in expanding hospital capacity, vents, ppe on the way etc ...

thats great news moose - and I'm not surprised. Hy-Vee is an employee-owned company that's really consumer focused, more than most retailers who claim they are but aren't . I called on them for years and I saw it first hand.

Interesting, yet slightly disheartening article. Links to other articles within.

Really upbeat stuff there Tofurky.  :(

If above means you are hunkered for the weekend just waiting for the Sunday ESPN 2013 rebroadcast and you really like numbers (see thread title) here's some updated reading material:

Unfortunately have to refresh this. It’ll be 28 days to get from 1 to 1000. Four days to get from 1000 to 2000
