2020 D1 All-Americans.

Recommended Posts

Glad they did that.  Hope they award the team trophies as well.  Looks liek the top 8 seeds at 1st AA,  9-12 seeds second team and 13-16 HM.  A bit generous, IMHO but certainly very reasonable.

There are certainly SRs on the list (even 1st team)  that never were on the podium before but may have made it.

The NCAA does not award All-Americans.  All-American honors are awarded by outside groups.  In wrestling the NWCA is the body that all the wrestling community recognizes.  They are the ones that give the physical awards.  They normally just give them to the top-8 place winners at the NCAA tournament to remove any politics from the selection process.

The NCAA gives the team trophies and they are based on results at the NCAA tournament. So there won’t be any team trophies awarded.

The NCAA won’t give political awards.  They don’t award the Hodge.   There is a reason they give out the category leader winner awards.   They are based on pure metrics that is free of bias.

The final USA Today/NWCA team rankings would be the widely accepted top team for the season in the absence of a NCAA tournament.  However that is a dual designation.

Good to see these wrestlers get the recognition they deserve. Did they go straight by NCAA tourney seeding s to decide who got AA?

It looks that way to me. Seeds 1-8 are 1st team, 9-12 2nd and 13-16 tHM.

Does make sense, still would have thought Mitch McKee would be first team.

McKee was a number 10 seed 2nd team. MFFT in the B1G certainly hurt.

Ten years from now, some wrestler will try to charge extra for a clinic because he was an All-American, but he won't reveal that he was actually the 16th seed in the 2020 NCAA Championships.

They are an All-American. They earned it.

hmm ... Mark Branch was not seeded yet he can charge for camps and pretty sure the university pays him a salary to coach.  ;_;

He was actually seeded three times.  And back then, they didn't seed as deeply.

But he went into NCAAs with a losing record and won.  If picking folks to teach camp or coach maybe more important that they are good at teaching technique than simply if AA or high seed.

Is 2nd team really All-American (even in sports that normally do have 2nd teams)?

I thought 2nd team and HM are generous.  Top 16 is a lot. But I'm happy they awarded them. I would have preferred they award places based on seed to 8.

Means nothing......you didn't wrestle......you didn't earn anything.

They earned it every time they stepped on the mat from November to March

No tournament was held....no placements......don't care what football or basketball does....means nothing.
