Suriano is the one, and only, first RU champ as Asphalt needed a 6th, or was it 7th, yeah to win his. Anyone who takes more than 5 years, automatically gives of any accolades of being a champion. GreatWhiteNorth 229 Report post Posted May 25, 2020 Not surprisingly, the actual wrestlers aren't as obsessed with hyperbole as much as some of the fans are - specially the dopey fans on message boards like we have here. The huge majority know they'll never be at the top of the pile. And even though many of them work as hard as they can, knowing they likely won't be in the top x%, it doesn't matter. That's not even close to the goal of wrestling. Not by a mile. You work to be the best you can possibly be, and the chips fall where they may. You shoot for the top, and you land where you land. For (2) guys on the same team to shoot for the top and both achieve the status of NCAA Champion - that is something super special. That's an achievement they share. Yes, technically, the chronology of +/- an hour is real. But it is insignificant, and irrelevant in the grand scheme. Arguing about it as petty, at best. There's no argument, Suriano was the first champion. Yes, they share the status of NCAA champion, but Suriano was first. You better tell Rutgers and nj.com they're "obsessed with hyperbole": https://scarletknights.com/sports/wrestling/roster/nick-suriano/6815 The Suriano File 2019 NCAA Champion (133 Pounds) Two-time national finalist (2018-19) Two-time All-American (2018-19) First national champion and first finalist in program history https://www.nj.com/rutgers/2020/01/rutgers-unveils-banners-for-wrestling-national-champions-anthony-ashnault-nick-suriano-photos.html Ashnault, who was the first wrestler to become a four-time undefeated state champion during his time at South Plainfield, then capped his remarkable college career and undefeated senior season by downing Ohio State’s Micah Jordan in the 149-pound final to become Rutgers’ second national champion. That said, pretty sure Ashnault doesn't really care.

If you don't agree - then we agree to disagree. Any wrestler worth his salt doesn't give two ****s about the order of the matches on any given day. Same day, same status. Those of us who have wrestled get that.

I agree, pretty sure Ashnault doesn't care (which I said, but accidentally went inside the quote). But that's not what you said originally. You said they share "the first title." They don't. 1 wrestlingphish reacted to this

You'd think, as the school's first National Champion, you'd want to be there for the honor. I know he was in Italy at the time. But,apparently ,Rutgers tried to work with him to come up with a date that worked. Edited May 26, 2020 by rpbobcat 1 Housebuye reacted to this
StallWarning 166 Report post Posted May 26, 2020 Arguing over who was the first Rutgers NCAA champ is probably the dumbest thing I've seen argued on this board.
