ECU cuts four athletic teams. Not a good sign

Recommended Posts

110 teams gone, 60 from schools that have completely closed since March 11. Tennis impacted the most so far among the sports cut from school remaining open, with 14 programs gone.

My full list: http://almanac.mattalkonline.com/covid-19-era-dropped-sports/

Quick by Division (if this displays properly)

D1 17
D2 42
D3 15
NAIA 15
NCCAA 4
NJCAA 17
Grand Total 110

Many D1 tennis teams are filled with foreign players. I wonder if that is a reason that sport is getting hit hard. For example, 7 of the 8 players on ECU's men's team and 7 of 10 of the women are foreign.

Small roster and hardly any in state students might also be a reason. If any of them went home, when will they be able to return? The 14 tennis teams dropped accounts for 113 total athletes in all divisions.

Akron women - 6 of 9 foreign, 0 in state
Green Bay men - 7 of 7 foreign
Green Bay women - 6 of 8 foreign, 0 in state

5 D1 teams total. 42 players. 33 from outside the US. 2 in-state players.

Man ECU seems just as dense as ODU.   The home page on their athletics site says "One Pirate Nation."  Obviously not for the tennis and swimming teams.

The women's teams cut probably have a Title IX case right?   I see they have women's lacrosse, soccer and volleyball that they don't have in men's, I guess it's possible that might balance out the football roster.
