I’ve talked to multiple coaches in NJ (both club and HS) and they are all under the impression the season isn’t going to happen at all never mind the state tournament, and the saddest thing is , none of this has anything to do with safety or the kids health at all. Every single decision anyone in power makes is just to score political point or for optics and unfortunately they’ve decided to make kids pawns in all of it.

their is a slim to none chance that this season happens and makes it all the way through.

Well I’m not sure who you talked to but in the same meeting that’s referenced in this article we also discussed the regular season which will consist of 15 matches usually in conference. They are going to match up teams after the season from within different regions. Very similar to football this year. Maybe the coaches you spoke with are looking at the numbers trending upward and are just assuming there won’t be anything but as of now it’s on. It’s a lost season outside of division championships.

It’s not about controlling political optics, it’s about controlling the spread of this to others. There have been 16,000 deaths in NJ.

Over 10,000 in nursing homes....and the reason for canceling the tournament is because they can’t have fans when they have schools that still aren’t allowing students to attend in person ,so if they aren’t going to make money they aren’t going to bother. You can go to strip clubs and gamble in casinos in NJ but the state wrestling tournament is too dangerous? Kids train their entire lives to be NJ state champ not wrestle 10 conference matches ( I’m pretty sure some conferences don’t even have 10 teams ) . Its all a damn shame

Actually 7,000. And 15% of deaths are between the ages of 50-64.

I have no clue what you mean - but I doubt you do, either.

The main reason there won’t be a real postseason is because no way they could allow fans to attend when you still have high schools that aren’t allowing students in person, and MetLife is sitting empty all year so if the state isn’t going to make a massive profit by packing Atlantic City like they do every year then they aren’t going to bother, because in the end it’s not about the kids it’s about $$$ like everything else in this disaster of a state.

So ruining kids once in a lifetime opportunity because they don’t have a plan to make a buck off it is doing the right thing to you?

You know what ruins kids' once in a lifetime opportunity?  Bringing a deadly disease into their family that kills someone.  We just had over 2,000 daily cases, mostly
because assholes don't bother to do what it takes to beat this disease (ref:  Australia).  I had to quarantine my HS daughter (her test came back negative yesterday) this past week because a classmate went to school waiting for a test result that was positive.

Life sucks sometimes.  Death sucks even more.  You want to end this stupid situation?  Stop doing stupid s***.

If you live in the disaster of a state that is NJ, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.  Spoken as a ~40 year resident of the Garden State.

Make no mistake - I do feel badly for the 450 or so boys (and I'm not sure how many girls) who will lose this opportunity.  I also feel badly for my own daughter, who missed out on theater performances in her senior year, and the opportunity to be considered in the "Rising Star Awards" (AKA, NJ High School Tony Awards).  I feel even worse for people who are losing jobs during this pandemic.  This does hit close to home for us.  But it has hit us harder seeing neighbors and members of our community get sick and die from this - police, doctors, teachers, restauranters, mothers, fathers - these people are not in nursing homes, they are active members of the community.  They are not just numbers, they are known to us.  I live here - I know how bad it can get.

On a more positive note - both of our kids are in college this year, and they have almost gotten through the semester (finishing on campus instruction in just 3 weeks)  It hasn't been "normal", but by following strict guidelines and limits, both schools (Syracuse and U of Hartford) have succeeded in managing the situation admirably well.

The situation sucks, I grant you that - but making vague innuendo about conspiracy theories (sounds like someone else?) doesn't help.  The best way out of this mess is to follow science and keeping this bug suppressed until a vaccine is developed.  If people will just follow simple guidance - wear masks, social distance, avoid large gatherings - complete shut down would not be necessary.

You are right...people need to start doing the right thing...aka...if you are old and in an at risk category, STAY HOME and away from people!!  Don't go near the grandkid who goes to school or plays sports.  Don't go to the grocery store, have it delivered.  As someone just posted, you don't want to die...then stop doing stupid s#$#.

"If people will just follow simple guidance - wear masks, social distance, avoid large gatherings - complete shut down would not be necessary"...so you agree that grandpa and grandma aren't following these rules??  I agree with it too...I also agree that they should be the ones on lockdown if they are afraid.

Everyone agrees that dying is terrible...no one wants that...but it is unfortunately a fact of life.  It thus comes down to the constant argument of one side thinks the vast majority should alter their life because of the VERY small minority, and the other side thinks the VERY small minority should be the ones to alter their life to save their own life.  Have yet to hear a logical argument and the "why's" behind the first argument I mentioned.  The other question no one ever seems to answer is "What is the end game for this?"  Is it no cases of Covid??  Is it a vaccine?  Is it a change in president?  What does the "science" say about that?  Other questions no one seems to want to answer....What happened to the flu?  Has anyone died of something other than Covid even if they tested positive?  How many deaths can be attributed to nursing homes?  Why do we compare ourselves to other countries?  Do all countries count Covid cases and deaths the same?

With the exception of college I’ve lived here over 30 years and when I leave it’ll be so fast the door won’t have a chance to hit me. I don’t think you understand how many kids really pave the way for their future in AC, on any given year you’ll find 5-10 kids who make a nice run senior year and secure themselves a chance to go to college, just speaking personally if they had canceled states my senior year, me and best friend would never have gotten a chance to wrestle after high school and honestly I don’t think either of us would have even finished school that year, so while you cry about killing someone’s grandma ( even after the model of NJ fitness chris Christie survived) you need to understand that a lot of wrestlers are in the same spot I was in and their opportunity is going to be crushed because of politics and money, and 16-18 yr olds don’t always respond well to having theirs dreams gutted, I think people just think omg COVID we have to save the old people and in the process of maybe saving 5 grandmas , you ruin or greatly alter the future on 10 kids, is that worth it?

On a positive note I’m happy your kids have made it through the semester with no issues hopefully next year it’ll be back to normal and they can just worry about normal college kid things ...

I’m not making vague innuendos or conspiracy theories, I pointed out in my original post that I spoke with a few coaches from the state and this was their  opinion that the states concern is about not making $$ not the potential for someone to get sick, I didn’t just pull that out of thin air, and if you are from here you’ll know that everything in this state is about $$$.

And I don’t know what coaches anti troll spoke with, but I can tell you the overwhelming vast majority don’t think this has a damn thing to do with money. The NJSIAA could easily hold the state tourney at a HS without fans, this is about protecting our citizenry and realizing that there is more to life than sports.

You guys keeps saying lock away the grandmas and grandpas, 20% of NJ deaths have been between the ages of 30-64 years of age. 50-64 (15.83%), 30-49 (4.36%).  What don’t you understand about that?

And in the same place you found that information you could clearly see the graph where it shows that only 1 out of the 4.36 percent that died in the 30-49 age gap didn’t have atleast 1 major underlying condition. And over 90 percent in the 50-64 bracket, stop trying to force your irrational fear on other people,

your going to sit there and act like we didn’t see the governor out in the streets with 1000s of people protesting while taking people to court for opening their businesses the same week,  like we didn’t have over 9,000 deaths after the governor ordered sick people into nursing homes then banned the families from visiting, like I can’t go to a casino and sit down and gamble with no mask on and that’s perfectly safe, I can go get a lap dance right now but wrestling is far to dangerous? get real man I mean 60 yr old 400 pound Chain smoker Chris Christie beat the virus in under a week but we re worried about the health and safety our children ?

You should move to South Dakota.  You'd probably find plenty of like minded people there.

See ya!

Typical...don't like a person's opinion then get rid of them...yep, the party of open mildness in action people.

You don't like people who think differently, then you sir should be the one to leave...and when I say leave, I mean the US, those principals are what this country was built on...so, See ya!
