Which teams need what weights for 2013-14

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this topic will go anywhere but thought it might be worth a try. Wondering what teams need to recruit what weights for immediate help next year. Talking about teams that need a guy that can step right in and help immediately.

As in, "who needs a 125, who needs a 133 etc."

Huskers need lowest 3 weights and 184,Looks like maybeTm Lambert, Nate Morgan, and Anthony Abidin there, and 184 could be between Dudley and Downey who beat Storley in freestyle last spring. At heavyweight Johnson needs to stay in the weightroom, and eat like a hog.

Next year CMU appears to have a solid lineup from 125-184, with each wrestler having the potential to AQ. Instant help is sorely needed at 197 and 285, however.

"Instant help" is a better phrase probably to describe what I was looking for. Interested in all weights but especially interested in which D1 team's need "instant help" at 125 and/or 133.

It's really unfortunate the Pommerenke didn't pan out. He was supposed to be Trice's successor.

Coach, is Longendyke done for good? The few matches I saw him in he looked like he'd lost his desire to wrestle.

CMU will be just fine at 197, don't worry about that weight. He is not on the roster yet, though. The 285 starter could be a true freshman, so the youngster will be thrown to the wolves out of the gate.

The Huskers need a true HWT and the 3 light weights. Gotta replace Ihnen who was never an A.A. but won over 100 matches and lost 3X in the round of 12 at 184lbs. Dudley or Downey at 184lbs and the other to 197lbs.

Actually, Ihnen placed 8th in 2012

Downey will turn some heads....84kg FILA Junior World Silver Medalist last fall, in addition to his previously mentioned win over Storley.

For Oklahoma, I think that there is a question mark for the 149/157lb weight classes. Also, I think that HWT is up in the air. Chaid could have an immediate impact, but may redshirt. The Lester brothers must improve for OU to be in contention for a National Title.

Right now, this is what I am thinking what the lineup will look like:

125lbs - Jarrod Patterson Sr. (dnp, dnp, 7th, RS)

133lbs - Cody Brewer So. (7th)

141lbs - Kendric Maple Sr. (dnp, 4th, 1st)

149lbs - Nick Lester Sr. (dnp, 8th, dnp)

157lbs - Matt Lester Sr. OR Justin DeAngelis Jr.

165lbs - Clark Glass Fr. (talented freshman with solid redshirt year)

174lbs - Andrew Howe Sr. (2nd, 1st, 3rd, OLYRS, RS)

184lbs - Travis Rutt Sr. (dnp, dnp, 7th, OLYRS, RS)

197lbs - Brad Johnson So. (should improve with gained mat time)

285lbs - Ross Larson Fr. OR Dan Chaid Jr. Fr.

Iowa needs someone to break the Curse of Metcalf at 149. Other than that all other positions look to have a solid starter.

125: Cory Clark/Thomas Gilman

133: Tony Ramos

141: Josh Dziewa

149: Black Pit of Despair

157: Derek St. John

165: Nick Moore

174: Mike Evans

184: Ethen Lofthouse

197: Nathan Burak

HW: Bobby Telford

I believe the nine guys listed all have the ability to AA. But, as stated, 149 is just a depressing hole. Some tough breaks there for Iowa recently. Nate Skonieczny, we hardly knew ye.

Oklahoma State could use a 141. Everything else seems to be in solid hands.

125: Eddie Klimara

133: Jon Morrison

141: Julian Feikert

149: Josh Kindig

157: Alex Dieringer

165: Tyler Caldwell

174: Chris Perry

184: Jordan Rogers

197: Blake Rosholt

285: Austin Marsden

A few options for OSU at 141 are to move Morrison up, and hope Dean Heil is ready to go at 133, or Case Garrison could replace Feikert in the lineup this season. I'm not sure any options would be better than a free agent from somewhere.

Apparently unaware of the Curse at Heavyweight.

Telford was an AA last year and barring injury would have most likely made the podium again this year. Prior to that Raising didn't AA in 2011 but Erekson and Fields made the podium 08,09 and 10. Iowa has scored pts at 285 every year but one since Mocco jumped ship. If that is a curse most teams would PRAY to be cursed that way.

If the Gophers stay down I think they are looking good

125-Thorn

133-Dardanes

141-Dardanes

149-Ness

157-Zilverberg/Kingsley

165-Reel -wouldn't mind Joey Davis, but Reel will do well

174-Storely

184-Steinhaus

197-Schiller

285-Nelson

If they move up, help at 125

125- Brancale

133-Thorn

141-Dardanes

149-Dardanes/Zilverberg?

157-Ness

165-Reel/Zilverberg/Kingsley

174-Storely

184-Steinhaus

197-Schiller

285-Nelson

If any 125 pounders wanna transfer and help win a national title that would be neat!
