executionery4145 1 Report post Posted January 10, 2021 I’m currently in the process of returning to school and I’m just wondering would I be too old to compete in college ? What’s the 10 semester rule ? If you go part time it doesn’t go against your eligibility?

Sheerstress 174 Report post Posted January 11, 2021 2 hours ago, executionery4145 said: Can someone explain the ten semester rule ? Basically, it states that once you enroll at a school, your "eligibility clock" starts ticking, and you have five years (10 semesters) to complete your four years of eligibility. In the case of someone like yourself, who was once enrolled in school, whether you can compete again depends partly on where you intend to re-enroll. http://www.ncaa.org/student-athletes/current/transfer-terms https://www.naia.org/legislative/2016-17/releases/20161018qftcv

D2/3 (not sure about NAIA but likely) don't need to have the semesters consecutive.
IronChef 1,101 Report post Posted January 11, 2021 If you actually want to wrestle, contact a school you're interested in and tell them your situation. They can tell you exactly what eligibility you have left, if any. Even if you get correct information on this forum, it won't be specific to your educational and athletic history. Yes, but the basic rule is actually the same in all three NCAA divisions, and the NAIA, presumably for students who are going through college uninterrupted. Like you say, if you want to take a semester or more off, for Olympic RS, mission trip, transfer to a school in a different division or different association, or just take extended time to do other things in life, the rules for retaining eligibility vary greatly between divisions. I have no idea what you're saying. In D2/D3 you can leave school for a year or two for no good reason and the clock resumes where it was when you left. In D1 you have to have one of the specific reasons otherwise you've got 5 years to do 4.
Swayz 162 Report post Posted January 11, 2021 How many years you already compete? I know lot of coaches looking for bodies at semester in NAIA level.
IronChef 1,101 Report post Posted January 12, 2021 I question the original poster's sincerity a bit. If you go back through his posting history, he has been coming to this forum to ask some version of this question periodically for six or seven years.
