Three Stanford starters go 2-0 yesterday

Recommended Posts

Against Cal Baptist and Cal Poly.  Namely Jackson DiSario at 125 lbs, Requir van der Merwe at 157 lbs and Tyler Eischens at 165 lbs.   Have to wonder why isn't Real Woods in the starting lineup and where was Shane Griffith yesterday?

Other Stanford guys I'm wondering about are:

# 26 ranked (WS) Fabian Santillan - RS FR - Has wrestled once this season at 149 lbs - listed at 141 lbs

# 28 ranked (WS) Dominick Mandarino - RS JR - Hasn't competed since 2019 when he went 21-9 at 165 lbs - listed at 157 lbs

# 59 ranked (WS) Judah Duhm - RS JR - Like Mandarino he hasn't competed since 2019 when he went 5-2 at 184 lbs - Listed at 184 lbs

I wonder if the same applies to Griffith.  He competed last weekend at 174 lbs.  So maybe he has not yet certified at 165 lbs?

I have to wonder what the lineup will be when Griffith does start at 165 lbs.   It's a nice problem to have but they appear to have too many good wrestlers in that lineup:

125 - # 22 Jackson DiSario - 3-0

133 - # 41 Jason Miranda - 2-0 & #87 Logan Ashton - 1-1

141 - #6 Real Woods - 0-0 & # 26 Fabian Santillan 1-0 & # 103 Dalton Young 0-0

149 - # 16 Jaden Abas - 2-1

157 - # 19 Requir van der Merwe - 3-0 & # 28 Dominick Mandarino - 0-0 & #194 Charlie Darracott - 3-0

165 - # 4 Shane Griffith - 1-0 (at 174) & #24 Tyler Eischens - 3-0 (at 165)

174 - # 4 Shane Griffith - 1-0 (at 174) & # 24 Tyler Eischens - 1-0 (at 174) & # 71 Foster Karmon - 0-0 & #88 Jared Hill - 1-1 (at 174)

184 - #71 Foster Karmon - 0-0  & # 88 Jared Hill - 0-1 (at 184 lbs) & #59 Judah Duhm - 0-0 & #100 Nick Addison - 0-1 & # 117 Ethan Woods - 1-1

197 - # 67 (at 285) Haydn Maley - 1-0 & # 128 Nick Stemmet - 2-0

285 - #17 (at 197) Nathan Traxer - 1-0 & #79 Peter Ming - 2-1 & #128 Seamus O'Malley - 0-2

You certify before you compete.Woods has yet to certify.Griffith has certified but his decent plan may not allow him to be at 165 yet.Im not sure what he weighed in at for his last dual at 174

I can only go by what I saw with my own eyes and I watched Griffith's match last weekend at 174 lbs vs. Albert Urias of CS Bakersfield - which Griffith won by MD (15-5).  Griffith did not "look" like he was tipping the scales at 174 lbs.  He looked more like a 165 lb guy to me.  But my eyes have deceived me before LOL.

No Griffith either.  The lineup on Track Wrestling had Griffith listed but when the 165 lbs match began it changed to Charlie Darracott - not Griffth and with about 1 minute left Darracott is losing 11-4

Maybe I’m reading too much into it but I wonder if something is going on with Woods.

Borrelli has made a couple interesting comments.   A few weeks ago he was on the Wrestling Changed My Life Podcast and although I don’t think he meant it to come off this way, it almost sounded like he was disappointed in Woods for entering the transfer portal.

Then yesterday he got interviewed by the Stalemates guy and he made a weird comment when asked about some guys being out of the lineup (not specifically about Woods) saying something like “everyone has dealt with what happened this year in their own way”

Just speaking for myself on this but it would not surprise me (at all) if Woods simply chose to just not compete this season.   And according to Stanford's wrestling schedule their last two dual matches are next weekend vs. Oregon State and Utah Valley.  If he doesn't compete this weekend and ONLY competes at the PAC 12 tournament (Feb. 28th) he would likely only compete in two matches.   So I think what you are reading into Borelli's comments is fairly accurate.
