wrestlingnerd 2,996 Report post Posted March 20, 2021 This "free year" allows seniors to return next season. We know all the Iowa seniors plan to return. Who else? Is Deakin returning?

If he graduates soon, maybe he can join another team as a graduate student. A fresh start might do him some good. He’s a very good wrestler, so I selfishly want to see him wrestle some more. When Im done with my MBA, Ill have paid about 8k which isnt a big deal to me and my compensation will increase high enough that it will be covered the first year. My company is paying for part of it though.

Animal197 7 Report post Posted March 20, 2021 It’s been a while since I posted (Covid and a move from IA to TN). I just want to point out the difference between graduate and professional programs. While the majority of these programs are for “graduates” with BS/BA or higher degrees, professional programs (MBA, MD, DVM, etc) have the majority of students paying tuition. Graduate programs (MS, PhD) typically offset tuition with the student working by research or teaching assistantships. I’ve done both, and have preferred when I was paid to go to school. If current seniors can get either one of these type of programs paid for by wrestling another year, it could really set them up well for future success. I’m curious as to what options programs have to pay for the additional scholarship needs Covid may have brought.

Le duke 386 Report post Posted March 20, 2021 This is a ridiculously terrible takeMy personal bias is showing here, but: Grad school requires you to produce a thesis/dissertation. Between me and my wife, we paid $0 for grad school. Neither did anyone else is either of our programs. Law school and business school are professional schools. They generally do not require you to produce a thesis or dissertation to graduate. People may pay some or all of the tuition. My wife (PhD, JD from top 10-20 schools) will be the first to tell you that law school and grad school are not the same. As you yourself admitted, lumping them all together is a foolish endeavor. And in the US if you are not transitioning directly from undergrad to grad school then you still aren't getting liberal arts grad school for free. I had a really fired up reply that I deleted to your first post, but I didn't post it and I'm glad because I'm pretty sure we are on the same page - yours was just oversimplified at the outset.
