Top teams performance since Sanderson took over PSU

Recommended Posts

There is ZERO debate.  Sanderson and PSU are the benchmark when it comes to DI Wrestling.  Everyone else is battling for #2.  Here is how that has shaken out since he took over in the 2009-2010 season:

From 2010 to present: PSU, Iowa and Cornell are the ONLY teams to finish in the top 10 EVERY year(I am confident Cornell would have if Ivies were allowed this year).  Iowa is the ONLY team to finish in the TOP 5 EVERY season.

PSU-9,1,1,1,1,6,1,1,1,1,Covid,2  Average 25/11=  2.272 place-Champs 27-All American's-3,5,6,5,7,5,6,6,8,7,5,6 Average 69/12=5.75

Iowa-1,3,3,4,4,2,5,4,3,4,Covid,1  Average 34/11= 3.09 place-Champs 10-All American's-8,5,6,4,6,6,6,5,5,6,10,7 Average 74/12=6.1666 per year

OkState-6,4,6,2,3,7,2,3,13,3, Covid,3  Average 52/11=4.727 place-Champs 10-All American's-4,3,3,7,5,4,6,8,4,5,3,6  Average 58/12=4.833 per year

Cornell-2,2,4,5,7,5,7,8,7,7,Covid,DNP  Average 54/10=5.4 place-Champs 11-All American's-4,5,5,4,3,4,3,4,4,4,2,DNP  Average 42/11=3.818 per year

tOSU-8,29,5,6,6,1,3,2,2,2,Covid,9  Average=73/11=6.636 place-Champs 9-All American's-3,1,4,3,2,5,4,6,8,5,5,3 Average 49/12= 4.083 per year

Minn-7,7,2,3,2,8, 17,7, 17,8,Covid,7 Average 85/11=7.727 place-Champs 4-All American's-4,5,7,8,7,5,2,4,1,4,3,3 Average 53/12=4.416 per year

Mizz-10,17,26,7,14,4,6,5,6,6,Covid,7  Average=108/11  9.818 place-Champs 5-All American's-2,2,0,5,2,5,4,5,4,4,1,3 Average 37/12=3.083 per year

So this is your way of dealing with losing the team title?  If it makes you feel better, go for it.

No, its an objective number. Put the stats up.

How many individual champs and how many AAs.

Or did you conviniently leave the most important metric out on purpose?

Compared to whom?  PSU?  Did you even read how my 1st post went?  I literally started off saying PSU was the benchmark and everyone else has been battling for 2nd. That definitely goes for Individual champs during that time. Still I believe Iowa is ahead of everyone else in AAs and I doubt anyone else is far ahead of them with champs, if any are even ahead of them at all. I don’t have the time to look that up til later today. But, I will if no one else does.

You made a statistical post on how teams performed since 2010 yet didnt put number number of champs and AAs. You dont think that thats an important statistic or measurable benchmark to include?

As for compared to whom?

How about these teams?

PSU-9,1,1,1,1,6,1,1,1,1,Covid,2  Average 25/11=  2.272 place

Iowa-1,3,3,4,4,2,5,4,3,4,Covid,1  Average 34/11= 3.09 place

Go ahead and put Iowa as champ and PSU as runner-up during Covid.

A guy with the handle "MSU" isn't an Iowa fan is he?

They hate me because I don't let the PSU fanboy's run wild and I am in fact a fan of the Brands more so than Iowa itself.  I don't know that I would still root for Iowa if they weren't there.

Also, I am 100% Green blooded(MSU).  But, the Athletic Department hasn't cared about the wrestling program and really didn't even care when we are actually a top 5 team during my time. With such a brutal product for so long(although hats off to their B1G performance), I started looking elsewhere when I stopped competing and became a bigger fan of the sport itself

As such,  I gravitated to Brands via Metcalf and started to become a fan of a program that I did NOT much care for when I was younger.  In fact, if Brands stayed at VTech you probably wouldn't see me saying much about Iowa.

Interesting. That's how I am with Cael Sanderson.

Well, he posts like a Hawkeye fan on HR all the time.

As funny as that is, I don't think I would even rank as an "average" fan over there.  As I said above, I am more a fan of the Brands than Iowa.  In fact, it is very likely that if Tom stayed at VTech Iowa probably wouldn't be on my radar.  Especially, since they really don't recruit Michigan whatsoever!

Yes, but you exude negativity when it comes to Brands while I have NO issue giving Sanderson all the respect he deserves................In fact, I would say his best coaching performance to date was probably this year's NCAA's.  After finishing 3rd at B1G's, I honestly didn't think they would make it nearly this competitive and didn't see them having more than 1 Champ.  4 was beyond an incredible accomplishment.

Sanderson gets the same level of negativity the Brands do?  In what World?

Made up negativity, but negativity none the less. In fairness, he is praised more than Brands but that is totally warranted since he is the best coach.

Let's be CLEAR.  Everyone on the ENTIRE planet has earned negativity to some degree.  NOONE is above reproach.  Sanderson is clearly the best DI Head Coach.  His results speak for themselves.  However, that doesn't mean there aren't things about him that can a should be questioned.

With that said, this argument is much like those that argue against Tom Brady with his fans.  I mean you have to just flat out say he is by far the best.  If you give stats that suggest Rodgers is a better overall QB or Manning, they take it as an insult to Brady, even if you are still saying he is in your top 5.

You guys are so used to being at the top with Sanderson, that anything less than pure admiration isn't tolerated!
