Spencer Lee will be Tom Brands' successor, right?

Recommended Posts

Assuming Spencer wants to be a head coach (I believe he has expressed interest in interviews before), it's a slam dunk that he would become the next HC of Iowa after Brands retires right?

He's 21 or 22 now?  Maybe 1 or 2 Olympic cycles (assuming he is healthy enough with the ACLs and all) by that time he's 30...Brands is probably close to retirement age too.

Lee will be Iowa's first 4x champ, 2x or even 3x Hodge Winner, favorite son and leader of the Iowa resurrections.  The job is as good as his, right?

His entire family has already moved there. So why not? Iowa would be crazy to let anyone outbid them for his services. He will probably become one of the five or so highest-paid assistants within a year or so of graduating, and deservedly so.

Yeah, when he's done he's going to be the best Hawkeye ever.  It would be like ISU not offering Cael the job.

Tom and Terry are older than Gable was when he retired.

Crazy to think that Gable was only 48 almost 49  when he retired at Iowa. Sanderson will be 42 this year.

Do we even know if he’s a good coach? There is a lot more to coaching than being a gifted wrestler.

There is, but the history has shown that in wrestling, more so than any other sport at the elite levels, being an elite athlete definitely translates into elite coaching.
