J'Den Cox Misses Weight

This is like the Lakers banning Lebron from the NBA Finals because he showed up to a team meeting late.

This is the only correct response in the 8 pages of this thread.

If keeping track of time was a core part of the wrestling skill set, this would matter.

This isn't like other tourneys where the goal is to name a winner; here the goal is to screen for the wrestler to represent us at the Olympics. If the tourney rules interfere with that goal, you show some flexibility.

Cox already gets a bye to the challenge tournament finals. If anything, wrestling that match at a later date would probably be preferable to his opponent, because then they get to wrestle it fresh

Incorrect.  Bye to semifinals.

It's nothing at all like that.

It's more like the NBA banning him for missing a drug/covid test.

You've got the analogy wrong. Team USA = Lakers; Olympics = NBA

When choosing players for your team, you don't self-sabotage by tripping them up with technicalities.

No, The NBA runs the NBA not the Lakers. Yes, in theory the Lakers could ban LBJ as mentioned but the Lakers aren't the governing body.

No it's the dumbest response and absolutely has no bearing or anything remotely like the situation. She wont answer but maybe you will. Let's assume he was 1 minute late. Is that OK?  What about 2 minutes? 5? What if Snyder was 10 minutes late is that OK? There's rules out there for reason and the only people that think it's OK to break  them would be the 1st ones to bitch if they or their child or somebody close to them were involved.

What?  Comparing Cox to the 2nd best player of all time who is currently the best at age 36 and has been the best in the world for 15 years is not comparable.  James currently is the face of the most prestigious basketball franchise and without him there would be no AD.

Maybe compare Cox to John Wall....not a multiple time world champ.

LeBron would not be late.  He is one of most reliable stars of all time.  Wrestling would benefit from a star like LeBron.

For all those that want discretion, please simply answer these questions ...

Wrestler A is late to weigh in (according to the official time being kept).  Steps on scale 1 minute late but is under the weight limit.   Make an exception?

If so, what is your allowable time frame?  5 minutes?  10 minutes?

Wrestler B makes it on time but is over weight by 0.1 pound (according to the official scale).   Make an exception?

If so, what is your allowable weight allowance?  0.5 pound, 1 pound?

I wonder what that means. If they'll let him wrestle? Or maybe at a later date?

Exactly.  Wrestle who?  Wrestle the OTT winner (so gets a bye to the finals)?  That would be crap.

That is the question. What is the right amount of leniency? I would say that if you must weigh in at a time you need to weigh in by that time. Pretty simple concept.

This isn’t a legal proceeding. This is a tryout for a team.

Discretion would mean if you fail to make weight on time, you’re done, unless a one-time, non-precedential act of discretion allows you in.

This really isn’t a difficult concept.

Or let’s say wrestler B missed weight by .1 lb but then 5 minutes after the deadline he makes weight.

Should he also be let in?

I get we are all frustrated but unless Cox’s camp somehow received incorrect information about the weigh in deadline I don’t think they should grant the appeal.

Maybe he thought he was on time but they closed early or somehow stopped him from weighing in again or delayed him until after time was up. Who knows what happened?

Or maybe he simply did not make weight on time.
