AHamilton 1,026 Report post Posted April 3, 2021 Both guaranteed one Olympian, but Ohio State could get a second with McKenna. Ohio State has also produced more Olympic gold medalists.

AHamilton 1,026 Report post Posted April 3, 2021 Also senior level Ohio State athletes from the Ryan era have more World/Olympic medals and titles. (4 for tOSU, 1 for PSU)
goStanford18 87 Report post Posted April 3, 2021 Isn’t McKenna with Coach Slay @ UPenn’s RTC now? and Snyder’s w/ Cael at the NLWC. So he’d attract recruits to Penn State (case in point: Kerk) Ohio State is guaranteed to have an alumni be an Olympian, but their current RTC roster likely will have 0 olympians this cycle. Moore would have to beat Snyder.

wamba 52 Report post Posted April 3, 2021 The sample size is fairly small which makes a fair comparison quite hard IMO. That being said, international success is the one thing that PSU isn’t clearly superior at than all other competitors at this stage. It’ll be interesting to see what the landscape looks like in another 5-10 years though. 1 swoopdown reacted to this
CA_Wrestler 328 Report post Posted April 3, 2021 lmao.....McKenna hasn't even been at Ohio state for almost 2 years now. He's at Penn RTC with Slay.

I'm talking which University better prepares young wrestlers for a future in freestyle, not which RTC has the money to lure them in, or which graduate programs are nearby (a big reason for McKenna and Snyder's departure.) A lot was made of the high number of PSU wrestlers in the trials, but now there are only two left. Other than Nickal, the second session was a disaster for PSU last night. Two three time NCAA champs were embarrassed. Zain lost to a zero time champ in McKenna, and Nolf was absolutely humiliated by Dake. Not exactly what a recruit with Olympic aspirations wants to see. 1 cjc007 reacted to this

Might be off by a lil but I think McKenna's been in Philly longer than he was in Columbus at this point. I forget when he transferred from Stanford and when he joined the Penn roster. Ohio RTC fans were really quick to claim Cox until he missed weight, too. Crazy how that happens.

Nick Lee jumped levels? We have the best room in the world, says Retherford. Then loses to McKenna. We are....lol Not too mention Tom Ryan allowing Snyder to chase his dreams. No way Carl would have let him freelance. Hell, he would look more like Mark Hall than Mark Schultz at this point. We are!!!! . .lol Sent from my moto z3 using Tapatalk

buckeye97 15 Report post Posted April 3, 2021 In all seriousness, Tom Ryan goes after guys who are better suited to freestyle than folkstyle, and who have serious freestyle aspirations with college being just a stepping stone. Hence why so many tOSU guys struggle from bottom position. Regarding RTC's, we all know where these guys train but the majority of casual fans whose only exposure to wrestling is tuning in every 4 years to watch a few Olympic matches is going to just associate Snyder and McKenna with tOSU. 1 DocBZ reacted to this

The Stiebers (and Cam Tessari, for that matter) were obviously good at everything but were most impressive because of what they'd done in folkstyle, especially Logan on the mat. What about Sammy Sasso? Etc.
