Last Chance OG qualifier

Recommended Posts

Under way a little while ago with day one...first "American" on the mat is Amine. He bangs his head HARD in the first 30 seconds with the Tunisian. Stumbles around in a way he'd never have been allowed to continue in an NCAA match. No biggie with UWW. Several minutes later there's some sort of really long delay..maybe a technical issue?

Meanwhile, Finesilver pulls away late to win over Gong of Korea, 7-0.

Geez. Bizarre first few matches. Now Abounader hurt his knee badly in the first minute and is rolling around getting checked out. He guts out a painful looking 4-4 decision over Romania. Hard to imagine him continuing next round, sadly.

Amine finally gets back on the mat after a 15-minute delay. He ends up giving up a late takedown to the Tunisian to lose, 3-2. Not sure what was going on for the long delay (maybe they were allowed to evaluate him because it was a head issue?...but it was several minutes of action after they'd originally attended to him?) Bizarre match, though. Feel bad for him. He was clearly devastated. The Tunisian obviously didn't qualify out of the African region, so a surprising way to go out

JO gets the hard-fought win, 6-2. Both guys opened up a lot more in the 2nd. JO gets a borderline split-second takedown that got challenged and upheld. That was really the biggest moment in the match. He gets the South Korean next since Bekbulatov didn't make weight.

Lomtadze survives Williams, 6-4

Seabass falls 5-1 to Ogannesyan. Ogannesyan is long and fast and smooth. I'd seen his scores, but I hadn't watched him before. He'll be a handful for sure in the quarters for JO assuming he takes care of business against the South Korean

Seabass loses 5-1. Picked up the pace a little and had a chance late but gave up 2 on a counter and that was it. He looked sluggish.

Realbuto in a tight match with noted wrestling powerhouse Brazil. And breaks it open to win 13-2.

Don't sleep on Romania at 65. Their rep just manhandled Cub....I mean the Dominican Republic rep in the first period.

Yeah, Ohlopkov is decent. He'll make Lomtadze work (and maybe even upset him based on how Lomtadze wrestled in the first round)...but he won't beat Skriabin or Gadzhiev even if he makes it tough on them.

They paid him so he better perform.
