To the Detroit locals, I'm at the Westin Cadillac Book. Is this place OK? Walkable to the arena? Did I screw up?

The Westin is a very nice hotel in a very safe area, however, it is a pretty far walk to Little Caesars Arena (LCA). Google maps says it is about a 16 minute walk so depending on the elements, it is doable. Another option is to walk to Woodward and get on the Qline although it moves at a very slow speed. Personally, I would recommend an Uber.

While staying at the Westin, I would highly suggest making a short walk to Lafyette/American to compare the two most iconic Detroit Coney dog's. It is a tradition for a lot of folks to get some from each and compare and contrast the differences.

Thanks - we'll need those calories to fuel the 16 minute walk. I'll also make sure to find a bourbon palate cleanser in between coneys to ensure authenticity of the comparison.

Got a room at the Trumbull hotel. Is it safe to walk to the arena from there, or should I Uber it?

Too far to walk to LCA but you will have a bunch of drinking options very near to your hotel. Uber/Lift is your best bet.

Depends on how big your group is, what route you take and what time of day.  Plus, it’s not the shortest walk.  If you can get a quick Uber the 1st time I would probably recommend it. Just be attentive to how he/she drives you there and maybe you would feel comfortable walking after seeing that.

Also a lot of good food and drink options in Corktown.   In Corktown, Slows  (BBQ), Batch Brewing Company, Mudgies Deli, Nemo's (dive bar burgers), Mexican Village Resturant, MIchigan and Trumbull (Detroit Style Pizza), Grandpa Bob's Pizza, Ottawa Via (nice Italian) and  Detroit Axe (Throwing) to name a few.

Corktown is an "Irish" neighborhood so it's going to be very busy in St. Patrick's day.

The biggest question I have is will it get as loud as the last time when Perry beat Hendricks? If so what match will bring the Detroit fans to their feet.

Loudest I ever remember any arena getting was when Moisey pinned Gilman.

Is Founder's Brewing Co. decent? I'm only staying Friday + Saturday, so want to do the best stuff with my short time. It looks close to the arena, and I think I'm brave enough to walk from there.

If you are a big fan of Founders than go, it is pretty close. The Brewery is very nice. The walk from LCA to Founders is a bit rough, desolate, tons of abandoned building (all owned by the people that own the arena, seems crazy but that's the Illitch's). During the day should be fine, at night can be a bit scary.

I'm just a fan of beer. If anyone sees a dude with cauliflower ear in Founders, please don't reveal my true identity to the forum.

Me thinks you may be safe if that is the one identifying feature you are worried about!

What about if we want to have a high-end dinner one night - any sushi, fondue, or nice steak/fish house walkable to the hotel? Casual Mexican restaurant in the area?

Calexico is pretty darn close and nice authentic Mexican.  London Chop House is pretty close too.  If I were picking, I am more partial to Pegasus inside GreekTown Casino.  Old school Greek feel with authentic, old school menu.

Also, don't forget St. Patrick's Day is that Thursday.  Downtown will almost certainly be RIDICULOUS now that Covid restrictions are pretty much gone.  I wouldn't expect getting easy access ANYWHERE!!!

Excellent beer and excellent food. Best brewery in Michigan for my money. It's a safe walk, I have a red wings ticket package and walk there before and/or after every game

Also Prime and Proper,(steaks) and Texas de Brazil, both very very close to the hotel. Joe Muer Seafood and Highlands in the Renaissance Center.

Bakersfield is one of the "trendier" Mexican places with a lot of "street food" options. Really good spot if that's appealing to you. If you're looking for a more upscale dinner without goin across town Grey Ghost is a really good option.

Ooof - good point. Brings back fond memories of jumping over puddles of vomit in Cleveland a few years ago and explaining to my then 12-year old why so many people had the flu that afternoon.

Good news: the Qline is free until 4/1

Bad news: the Qline shuts down at 8pm on Thurs and 10pm on Fri & Sat

Dumb question: Is the "people mover" different than the Qline?

Yes the People Mover is different than the Qline. The People Mover is elevated train that goes around the the downtown, but has been shut down during covid and I don't think it's back running yet.

The Qline runs along Woodward on the street. I don't know if they extend hours during special events but you should be fine without it.

I'm probably going to be staying in Dearborn area. Should I try to eat near the arena for good food? Mexican and Greek both sound great to me.

For both good Greek and Mexican you're better off staying downtown. In Greektown you have Pegasus and the Golden fleece which is excellent Greek food. Also Mexican town is a short ride from downtown. My favorites are Mexican Town restaurant and Los Galanes. Can't beat the Mexican Sandwich!

Whichever one secures the team title for the Wolverines.
