Watching Olympics live - schedule & tactics

Recommended Posts

https://olympics.com/tokyo-2020/en/schedule/wrestling-schedule

As I write this at about 10:30pm Monday it is 11:30am Tuesday in Tokyo.  So 13 hours ahead.

From the link above it looks like non-medal matches are 11am to 1:30pm local time.  That works out to 10pm to 12:30am East Coast time the night before.  So if match you want is listed as Wed mid-day, you need to watch it Tuesday night.  Doable.

Medal matches are 6:15pm to 10pm local time.  This equates to 5:15am to 9am East Coast time on that same date.  Also doable.

Actually pretty excited that this isn’t 2 or 3am type of thing.

What is the latest on being able to watch all matches?

Isn't 5:15 am ET literally a 3 am type of thing for the west coast?

For west coast the Tokyo morning matches are at a more convenient time compared to east coast (7pm to 9:30pm west coast time) but the Tokyo evening matches are at a much worse time .. (2:15am to 6am).  Yeah, that sucks.

Doesn't NBC typically re-run events at more convenient times?

For those who missed it. It's not 100% clear to me if wrestling will be the only thing on at that time or if they might jump around.

Edited to add that it looks like you can watch every match live on the NBC Olympics site with a TV provider sign in.

NJDan, this is the topic to discuss watching live, not the replay.

I know. But I was suggesting that there are alternatives if the live feed comes in the middle of the night.

Also, you can DVR it. My kids refuse to watch anything that's taped. But to me, watching a match a few hours later if you can avoid knowing who won (which is not so hard) is fine.

I’m just messing around, having a little fun at your expense.

Back in college I would have easily been able to watch late and then wake up early to see matches live. But now with a wife and kids it’s impossible.

I agree. My biggest challenge in watching the replay will be trying to avoid seeing the result beforehand. When you go to search for the game/match on some streaming app, in this case NBC, a score will inevitably flash across the screen.
