I was honestly kind of put off by it until I saw that the brothers are actually into it/on board. I think the oldest one helps run the twitter account now at least based on the twitter handle and the way some of the tweets are written (not in a bad way - you can just tell a difference at times).

Nothing worse than a parent who pushes too hard and wants kids to go all in on something that the kid(s) arent as invested in as the parent(s).

So, good on them. Im hopeful to see them continue to have success and evolve into well rounded wrestlers and people.

In the past I would say it is nuts for them to hype them up like this, but with the new NIL rules it makes sense. Looks like the boys work incredibly hard and are likeable. Kids are going to make some serious money in college.

Yeah this too. Cant hurt.

Agree with this. They seem like a really tight-knit family. I've only seen a few candid social media clips from the last weekend, but I only got positive vibes, even from the dad pre-match when the only thing he said to Bo was "enjoy it."

great wrestler and by all measures, a decent human being

Reguardless of any of this new brand recognition stuff I’m completely supportive of anyone who exhibits the above mention characteristics.  Let’s hope those sticks and I’m sure the financial part will eventually take care of itself on and/or off the mat.

Isn't the kid like 15? Will be interesting to see how the parents pivot if he quits and joins band or the badminton team.

Unlikely. He is Mason And Erik Gibson’s cousin and his dad is an excellent coach. He also seems to be pretty level headed for a 15 year old.

There was a lot of drama surrounding the Forest Hills program that used to have the Bassetts and Gibsons. Bill Bassett was fired as the Forest Hills junior high coach after a very successful season. The head varsity coach was involved in an incident where he is alleged to have handled a racism incident directed at Erik Gibson on the team poorly and then called a liar by the Gibsons' father in relation to a different incident. Then the Gibsons and Bassett transferred to Bishop McCort in the middle of the last school year. Erik Gibson was ruled ineligible for the transfer, while Mason was able to wrestle (I assume because he never wrestled for another high school). Also, Mason was the only McCort wrestler to compete in the postseason, and only one wrestler from the 2020 team was on the roster this season. Then Bill Bassett was named head coach in May.

Wow - that's some drama! A+ reading, though half of this doesn't make sense (how can a super get away with firing a coach-of-the-yr without explanation? the alleged lie seems like a non-issue, why's it such a big deal?)

PA is an at will state.

Well sure, legally he can get away with it. But as a public employee, the superintendent is accountable to parents at monthly board meetings. I'm surprised parents would just let this go without a detailed explanation of the rationale behind the termination.

Maybe he has Cornell lawyers.
