I fully expect him to medal and did before the Olympics started, but now everybody should really appreciate what JB has done for the United States at 74kg since he took the spot. I think most everybody appreciates it now and has appreciated it for while. It's not like he was ignored or disliked.

By the second match, he should've had a couple more hours of recovery, which is a lot when you're cutting really hard. If he was 60% in match 1, he should've been close to 80% in match 2. I don't think the cut was a factor in the second match because it was so short that conditioning never came into play. He only had about 40 minutes between matches. He just said he hopes he can come back for bronze. Nothing about strategy or what happened on the mat. He was a total gentleman about it despite their less than friendly recent history. He even poked fun at himself by saying that if he’s too quiet, it’s because he’ll be crying in the back while watching instead of competing.

I don’t know for sure but my guess is that it was closer to 30 minutes which is not unusual at the Olympics. This short rest between rounds 1 and 2 is a crucial factor that I feel many people overlook given how deep some of these Olympic weights are (very few places to avoid grueling first and second round matches at 57kg, 65kg and 74kg) and I feel that this definitely was a factor for Dake who is not known for his conditioning. I was not that surprised that Dake lost given that he did not look great off the scale, the the short time between weighing in and rounds 1/2, and the fact that Dake faced a tough round 1 opponent who did not let him breathe. If so, those folks are dumb. Just look at how close he was to Sidakov. But I think JB has always been loved and respected by all.
