Will Spencer Lee ever win Olympic gold?

Recommended Posts

Tokyo seemed like a prime time for Spencer to win gold, but as we knew he was severely injured due to wrestling the last NCAA season.  Now he's going into his final season with 2 bad ACLs, shooting for his 4th NCAA title.  No doubt he gets it, but he surely will sustain more damage to his already bad knees.  Will he ever win gold at the Olympics given the wear and tear he's put on his body throughout his college career?

As we just saw from Steveson (and Snyder before) an athletes prime often comes while they are still college-aged.

Lee will have two more Olympic chances and still be younger than DT winning Gold at 30 years of age.

Arthritis in the knees would probably hinder a 30 year 57 kg guy From winning an Olympic gold ...just saying ....

Spencer Lee is a special wrestler and I'm a big fan, but I don't think he has many reps left in his body.  Damn shame too because I believe he's the best 57kg in the world.

I agree.  I think he gets 4x NCAA titles, like Dake, Stieber and Cael.  But he will have sacrificed his dreams of Olympic Gold to achieve it.

University of Iowa needs to give him more than a tab on the webpage.  He needs a trophy outside of Carver Hawkeye.

DT may not have the same knee injury history, as Lee but he's also 86kg.

Only 2 americans on the list (3 with the inclusion of Steveson).  Dake, Taylor and Gillman needed many years before they could break through and get an olympic medal.  To write off spencer lee is a mistake.
