Women 2021 world championships

Recommended Posts

Not seeing a thread for the women.

I was surprised Jenna Burkertlost to the German. German won her next match with a close (but real TD) using leg to get into far side even though opponent had head.  Need German to win this next match to pull Jenna back in.

Kayla Miracle with two techs to make it to the semis.  Has looked great after going down 4 in her first match.

Let’s go Hemmer (Germany)!  Up 4-0.

oh crap.  … ……. In big trouble for a long time.  Wow.  Did not get pinned.  Wow.  Goes into 2nd still winning. 4-2.  Nearly nearly nearly pinned for 1 minute and opponent only gets 2 points for it.  Have to admit this is a non-ideal aspect of FS scoring.

India TD - come on Hemmer … damn it … another.  4-6 …

Hemmer with a throw and then a gut.  Only 2 for the throw?  8-6.  22 sec … India with real offense to win a couple times but a Hemmer able to get her hips out each time.  Wins!  Burkert is pulled back in!

Miracle vs Brazil - Nunes De Oli

winning 1-0 .. I think shot clock.  End of first.

gets a push out point.  Ref was about to flag her for passivity.  Not much action overall.  Nunes with left under hook, tries trip.  Woah.  Miracle avoids going down.  Miracle nearly throws her by.  Drops down to leg and holds on.  Wins!

Will wrestle Tynybekova for gold.  Raider says she was the Olympic silver medalist and past world gold(?).

Congrats to Miracle for punching through to the finals!!

That was not a TD - it was a penalty point for locking the hands around the head.  The score went from 2-2 with the German leading to 3-2 with a caution on the other girl. Had she not locked her hands and kept the head held I do not think they would have awarded the TD.

What happened to the first takedown by Khoroshavtseva that was posted and then removed?

It was taken back because they said she was channeling Tsargush.  Pulled the singlet.

Japan is probably in the position now that the second best female wrestler in the world in several weights is their backup.

You could even make that case for 4x Olympic champion, Kaori Icho.  Right now at 57kg, she's still top 3 in the world if she wanted to compete.  After she won the Olympics in 2016, she didn't wrestle for 2 years.  Came out of retirement in 2018, won a tournament to shake some rust off, then beat the eventual 2020 Olympic Champ Risako Kawai in their first meeting.  Kawai was so distraught by tat loss that she came really, really close to retiring from wrestling.  Kawai then beat Icho in their next meeting by 2.  Prior to the second match, Icho hadn't lost a match in Japan in 17 years.  In their tie breaker, Kawai won 3-3 on criteria.  At the time, Icho was 34.

Icho is an assistant coach now at NSSU(Nippon Sports Science University) where.....Japan's entry at 53kg(Akari Fujinami) will likely commit to just to be coached by Icho.

Loaded team for USA.  Will have to see see how Japan's team of not-as-decorated-as-their Olympic-squad is.  Good start so far.  Miracle wrestled smart in the semi.

They are super young.  Only one of them has competed on their senior team in an international tournament.  Imagine us sending our 3rd-4th string team to the senior world championships.
