Kevin Jackson with two worlds and Brandon Slay with an olympic title are the only two that come to mind in freestyle. I'm sure there's more

John Peterson 5th NAIA (assuming you're ok with Olympic rather than World)

Zeke Jones was 2nd at NCAAs his senior year (his best finish) and then went on to win worlds in 1991.

Basically every American freestyler who won before 1960 didn’t win an NCAA title.  Then you have Shelby Wilson, Lloyd Keaser, and Bobby Weaver, besides the wrestlers already mentioned.

Oh, I had no idea. Why is that? Is it because college wrestling was not taken as seriously in those days? Or maybe freestyle and folkstyle were more separate before 1960.
