Par Terre confusion -- Japan Greco Roman Compeition

Recommended Posts

Finally got to time stamp this.  It is very bizarre.  The video starts right before the first penalty.  Then it goes from 1-0 to 5-0 with two yellow cards thrown in before a second of wrestling action has occurred.

His coaches try to help and he still gets it wrong.  What's crazy when they get it figured out, he almost gets the pin...then later has another almost issue with a second par terre.

What's going on here?

The poor chap is using the old par terre starting position and just can't seem to get it right.  Doesn't know his chest must be flat to mat.  He's scrappy and shows some flashes (like with the high dive attempts, and his par terre defense is commendable) but inexperience seems to get the best of him.

He made it entertaining and one wonders how it might look without those points for blue. I dont know the rules well enough, but it was just bizarre.

I've only dabbled in greco in practice. That was around 20 years ago. It is an odd situation though.

There was no action for the first 1:30 then 5 points were scored from nothing which determined the match.

I think the best way to avoid this situation is to restart from neutral, rather than going to par terre, and implement a step-out rule for the small circle.

In effect, there'd be 2 types of step-out rules for the outer and inner circles.
