A beautiful woman doesn't have to inform others that she is beautiful.

A supremely talented artist, a great writer or poet, a gifted musician, and a scientist or mathematician in possession (and display) of genius generally don't need to proclaim their worth to the world.

And yet it often seems the fragile egos of high-achieving athletes are in constant need of preening, massaging, and self-promotion, especially sprinters, boxers, and basketball players, among multiple others.

We might each draw our conclusions from these broad truths.

Smith won his last oly gold in 92 which was after the USSR was disbanded.

In 1992, the former Soviet republics competed as the Unified Team. There were also 10 weights vs. 6.

It's all good....right now I consider Jordan to be, perhaps the greatest ambassador we have in our sport.  I'm considering his wrestling resume, he ability to speak/broadcast for our sport, the life he leads/family.  Great individual, not that John Smith, Bruce Baumgartner, Gable, etc. aren't.  JB is right near the top right now in my mind.  (Good for discussion)

Even today people don't understand what Lennon was saying. At the time, the comment resulted in the "Beatle burnings", with Christian groups, mostly in the South, taking to the streets to burn their Beatles records. How dare Lennon claim that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus? Who did he think he was?

Well, folks, the statement was more an observation and criticism of Beatlemania and the social zeitgeist of the time than any kind of claim that the Beatles were more relevant or important than Jesus or ANY religious figure. In 1966, the Beatles too were pretty shocked by Beatlemania; it touched their lives EVERY DAY, stripping them of their freedom and confining them to hotel rooms, especially on their US tours.

very few now or then really care about understanding what anyone else is actually trying to say...

at best, most just wait until it is their turn to vomit out an ill informed "opinion"...
