if he had known Larry Owings was double jointed?

Dan didn't know this and it was one reason his arm bars didn't hold and work to punish the opponent. Dan even looked surprised a couple of times during the match when Owings would slip out of what held others tight.

 

If he had known before the match, would he have changed tactics a bit?

This was found in an old Ownings family scrapbook.

 

Word has it here in Iowa that it was this actual stretch that made Larry's victory over Gable possible.

No, banbasketball, that is a photo of Larry after Gable got revenge in their rematch in freestyle. Yes that photo was taken after that match as Larry left the Arena, with his head planted firmly between his legs....literally!

It is clear that Gable should have trained even harder than he did. That is the only way to victory. If he would have trained hard enough, it wouldn't have mattered if Larry wass triple-jointed.

Gable should have stalled the whole match, then got a takedown in the third after choosing neutral. Half Owing's points were off of reversals and scrambles. Had Gable watched how the soviets wrestled, he would have went undefeated. I bet he wishes he had youtube back in the 60's.

Not possible. Coin toss winner got to choose whether to start the 2nd period on top or bottom. Position was reversed by rule to start the 3rd.

 

He did seem to miss a couple opportunities at back points while acumulating over two min. RT advantage (worth 2pts then).

I should have known that. No wonder. Maybe if Gable would have taken the DF style route, a win might have been achieved.
