Gantry 1,357 Report post Posted June 19, 2013 Reading TheMat preview, did I miss this before? Has it been discussed? " Dlagnev was defeated by Dom Bradley in April’s U.S. Open finals, but Bradley has withdrawn from the Trials while he attempts to resolve his positive drug test from the U.S. Open for the stimulant methylhexaneamine." Tripster 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2013 Is that the same as meth drugs?
tec87 324 Report post Posted June 19, 2013 Is that the same as meth drugs? No, a quick google search says it's marketed as a dietary suplement. "Although intended by Eli Lilly to be used as a nasal decongestant, methylhexaneamine has been marketed as a dietary supplement in combination with caffeine and other ingredients, under trade names such as Geranamine, Floradrene, OxyElite, and Jack3d, to be used as an over-the-counter thermogenic or general-purpose stimulant." bwh27 30 Report post Posted June 19, 2013 That's a real shame. I was picking Dlagnev to get revenge, but would have vastly preferred him to go through Dom Bradley. Any ostensible performance enhancing benefits to this dieting drug (as opposed to say marijuana)?
Gantry 1,357 Report post Posted June 19, 2013 This article makes me think Dom didn't ingest in on purpose: http://www.thestar.com/sports/baseball/ ... e_for.html While it’s chemically related to amphetamines, it’s only slightly more powerful than a cup of coffee, according to Greg Wells, a kinesiology professor at the University of Toronto who has educated Olympic athletes on doping rules. “It’s a short-acting stimulant, but it’s not something that we need to hang this guy up for anything like that,†Wells said. “It’s not a big deal.†
wrestlingnerd 2,361 Report post Posted June 19, 2013 It's only a big deal because it's a banned substance, but it really doesn't do much for someone in terms of unfair advantages. It is in between caffeine and ephedrine (and similar beta agonists, all of which are also banned) in potency. It makes you a little more focused and alert, and depending on the person, may help slightly in respiration (some of these drugs are taken by people with asthma). Still, a banned substance is a banned substance, whether it helps a lot or barely at all, and Dom should've known better.
olddirty 259 Report post Posted June 19, 2013 Seriously, this stuff is in everything. An 8 year old can buy it from Walmart.
TripNSweep 347 Report post Posted June 19, 2013 It sounds like an honest mistake. It's not like he was huffing it in the corner of the gym or anything.
IronChef 566 Report post Posted June 19, 2013 Sounds like a case of carelessness more than trying to get an unfair edge. He probably took a supplement that didn't have the stamp referred to in the article above and got burned. If that's what happened, I hope he can get some leniency in punishment.
