Olympic medalists in NCAA championships

Recommended Posts

Amine and Gable were both Olympic medalists who competed in the NCAA tournament after winning their medals. Who are some others that have done this? Secondly, has an Olympic freestyle medalist ever entered the NCAA tournament and not won? What about world medalists like Fix?

Rick Sanders won an Olympic silver medal in 1968, just a few months after graduating from college.  Therefore, he doesn't quite meet the OP's criteria.  However, he did take gold at the Pan-Am Games, bronze at the world championships and silver at the world championships; all three while still in college.  One of the all-time greats as a wrestler and free spirit!

Didn't Fix win silver at the last Olympics?

So here is what I see so far:

Won NCAA championship after Olympic Medal
Steveson, Snyder, Cox, Uetake, Davis

Did not win NCAA championship after Olympic freestyle medal
Amine, Reinoso (1992 Bronze, 2x D2 All-American 98-99)

Returned to college after Olympic greco medal
Lowney (2000 bronze, 2001 NCAA 3rd, 2002 NCAA 5th), Paulson (1996 silver, 1998 NCAA 7th)

Won world freestyle medal, did not win the next NCAA championship
Fix, Metzger (Metzger ultimately won 2 titles, Fix has 2 more chances to win)

Add Bobby Weaver to the "won world freestyle medal, did not win next NCAA championship."
