portajohn 463 Report post Posted March 22 14 minutes ago, Billyhoyle said: Ed Ruth was one of the top recruits in the country starting midway through his senior year when he won an Ironman tournament that included Chris Phillips. Any rankings that were put out before that tournament don’t reflect how highly recruited he was. I admitted I exaggerated Ruth's ranking coming out of high school but as I stated in another post there were doubts and he was considered a project
Jimmy Cinnabon 411 Report post Posted March 22 There's a great story about Ed Ruth not knowing who Cael was. He wrestled him during practice and Cael whipped him. Only after that did Ed realize Cael was a pretty good wrestler.

ugarte 526 Report post Posted March 23 8 hours ago, Jimmy Cinnabon said: Yeah this conversation ultimately always devolves into "Cael's just a great recruiter! He doesn't have to coach them up because they were already so great!" I think it's fairly obvious that Cael is a great recruiter because he is a great coach. I wish him nothing but failure (unless he somehow ends up coaching Cornell) but I don't think my wish is going to come true. 1 DocBZ reacted to this

Boompa 208 Report post Posted March 23 14 hours ago, portajohn said: Ed Ruth never won a state title. I don't believe he was even considered a blue chip recruit. Won a Nat Prep title at Blair as a 5th year senior. I'm pretty sure Ruth left Susquehanna Twp after his junior year to attend Blair. 1 portajohn reacted to this

Casper 108 Report post Posted March 24 On 3/22/2022 at 11:23 AM, Perry said: It is a fair question (to an extent). Penn state is great at molding great talent into top tier talent. How is their track record on molding above average talent into great talent? Interesting topic to discuss, actually. If Cael & Co can master this like Dan Gable did - they might threaten Iowa's 9 consecutive Title record.
