Seven Home Duals Highlight 2013-14 Cal Poly Wrestling Schedule

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The 2013-14 Cal Poly wrestling schedule, released Wednesday, includes seven home dual meets and five regular-season tournaments.

Third-year Mustang head coach Brendan Buckley has assembled a schedule that features a total of 12 dual meets and tournaments at Fresno (Roadrunner Open), Las Vegas (Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational), Reno (Reno Tournament of Champions), Evanston, IL (Midlands) and San Francisco (California Collegiate Open).

Cal Poly's home dual meets will be against Menlo College on Nov. 23, North Dakota State on Jan. 4, Oregon State on Jan. 9, Boise State (Homecoming) on Jan. 12, South Dakota State on Feb. 9, Stanford, also on Feb. 9, and Arizona State on Feb. 14.

The Mustangs also will wrestle dual meets at CSU Bakersfield, San Francisco State, Cal Baptist, Wyoming and Northern Colorado.

"We are very much looking forward to the 2013-14 season, in which we will compete against our fellow Pac-12 opponents as well as those from the West Region," said Buckley. "In addition, competing at the Las Vegas Invitational, the Reno Tournament of Champions and, for a few individuals, the Midlands, we will be able to compete against every major wrestling conference this season.

"Each wrestler on our team will be given a great opportunity to see the type of competition that can lead to an NCAA berth as well as be prepared to earn a spot on the All-American podium," Buckley added.

Cal Poly wrestling, presented by Meathead Movers, returns 11 lettermen and eight redshirts off the 2012-13 squad which won two of 11 duals, finished sixth in the Pac-12 finals and sent one representative to the nationals. This year's squad, which also includes 11 newcomers, all 2013 high school graduates, features a pair of Pac-12 champions -- Devon Lotito (pictured above) at 133 pounds in 2013 and Dominic Kastl at 165 pounds in 2012.

Cal Poly will hold its annual Green and Gold intrasquad meet Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. in the Mott Athletics Center and will officially open its season Nov. 7 with the dual meet at CSU Bakersfield.

The 2013-14 season wraps up with the Pac-12 Conference Championship on March 1 at Stanford and the NCAA Division I National Championship, scheduled for March 20-22 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla.
