Mike Parrish 380 Report post Posted July 17 California has the athletes of the 1927 Yankees but coaching is SO TERRIBLE that they continue to find ways to lose.

With the resources Calfornia has in girls' wrestling, we should look like Japan in these tournaments. 1 Mphillips reacted to this
Mike Parrish 380 Report post Posted July 19 Adding to the severity of this disaster, Iowa had 18 scoring wrestlers while California had 38. Iowa outscored California OVER 2:1 per wrestler. Missouri also had 38 wrestlers and beat California on team points. This would be like Mississippi placing higher than Pennsylvania on the boys' side. 2 OG Mat Master and Mphillips reacted to this

Mike Parrish 380 Report post Posted July 21 California "wins" the junior women's title. They had 75(!) wrestlers competing. One champion, one second, one third place. Out of 18 wrestlers in medal matches, 7 won. Taking out the California v California matches, they won 4 matches out of 12. 165 team points with 75 wrestlers = 2.2 team points per wrestler. If the scoring were limited to one wrestler per weight, California wouldn't have made the top 5. California has the native talent to be JAPAN at this event but they've opted for "Zerg Rush" as their strategy. Maybe it's time for California to have a change of leadership. Not having Mark Halvorson as the HC for the Greco teams while he was alive use to say a lot about the priorities of CAUSAW. I can't claim any info on the girls side, but I'm not surprised there are issues.
Mphillips 1,810 Report post Posted July 21 "Led by eight All-Americans (1 champion), Iowa won their first team championship. That stopped a run from 2012 where California won every team title." "In the history of the 16U women's tournament, Iowa only had 15 All-Americans from 2011-2021. This year they had more than half of that total with eight." Intermat ~ E. With 75 athletes going, that's $165K total. $1000/team point.
MSU158 2,038 Report post Posted July 25 (edited) Meanwhile, the Michigan ladies(Juniors) showed very well. 3 Champs, 1 second, 1 3rd and 1 4th. Not bad for sending 19. Out of the 13 that didn't place, only 3 didn't win a match. The other 10 went a combined 25-20, with all 10 winning at least 2 matches! Edited to add: The 16U MI ladies need to be credited here as well. Although they took 4th, they only sent 11. Of those 11, 5 placed(1st,1st, 3rd,4th and 7th). The remaining 6 were 15-12, with only 1 of those not winning a match. The others, again, all won 2 matches or more! Edited July 25 by MSU158
