University worlds - results day 2

Recommended Posts

Technical points are the actual points scored in the match; Classification points are based on the degree of victory. Kind of like Fargo, whee if you win by decision but your opponent scores, you get awarded 3; he gets awarded 1...If you win by TF, you get 4; if you win by fall, you get 5. The loser of the bout only gets 1 if they score (exception is a pin, which is always 5:0)

Therefore, since Taylor scored 4 technical points, versus the 1 for his opponent, he is awarded 3 class. points ( for a win by decision) and his opponent is awarded 1 class. point (for losing but scoring).

I am not sure how relevant class. points are now that we use a bracketing system. However, back when we used a pool system, I think they really mattered a lot because they would be used to break ties in case two guys had identical W/L records.

David Taylor improves to 2-0 on the day with the 8-0 (4:0) technical fall over the representative from Greece, Apostolos Taskoudis. The win sets up a quarterfinal bout against Denis Tsargush of Russia.

Round 3 action after each of our three guys competing today won their first two bouts of the day:

Taylor loses 0-4 to the legendary Tsargush (Russia)

Graff loses 1-3 to Shuptarh (Ukraine)

Burak loses 0-1 to Jumayev (Kazakstan)

Essentially the Russians dominated our guys in round three. Hoping the winners win through to keep our guys alive for Bronze.

Unfortunately, all three Americans lose in the quarterfinal round and will now need some help to get back into bronze medal contention.

At 60kg, Graff dropped a 10-6 decision to Vasyl SHUPTAR of Ukraine

At 96kg, Burak was shutout 6-0 by Alikhan JUMAYEV of KAZ

At 74kg, Tsargush proved to be too much for Taylor, notching the 8-0 TF

Dake just lost another fantasy match.

Or won depending how you look at it. It's apparently apparent that he's the hardest match JB ever had and it's only a matter of weeks before he beats JB, although, JB hasn't lost in 5 years and beaten much better, accomplished, wrestlers along the way than Dake.
