NCAA suspends Neb-Kearney wrestler for 2013 NCAA incident

Recommended Posts

The NCAA has suspended a wrestler from the University of Nebraska-Kearney for his behavior at the national championships in March, the Associated Press reported Friday, Aug. 30.

According to the NCAA, Patrick Martinez, a junior at the time, used profane language and had a physical altercation with the opposition's coach following a match at the 2013 NCAA Div. II championships in Birmingham, Ala.

The article states that UNK has to reimburse the NCAA for his travel expenses to the national tournament in Birmingham. I wonder if they also lose his team points & if that could change the team results. UNK won by 3 points over St. Cloud.

What happened to the coach? What is the entire story? NCAA is notorious for beating up on the athletes and desperately afraid of going after guys with free lawyers such as coaches, ADs, admin folks and officials. They are focused on the money they can rip out, on the backs of college kids and callous toward others from non income producing sports. The Manziel episode highlights that as does their lack of pursuit of the likes of those dirt bags Shalala, Spanier and Curley.

That implies the NCAA and not the member schools pay for travel expenses. Is that true for nationals and qualifiers?

Yes, the NCAA pays travel costs for the qualifiers.

I also believe they cover costs of hosting regional events which is why the Western Wrestling Conference programs still qualify through the West Regional rather than having their own conference qualifier.

A lot of people do not realize all of the resources the NCAA puts into championships, for all sports, at all levels.
