USA Freestyle in 2013

I dont think any country is clean, definitely not the US with two drug test failures this year. Just pointing out that Iran has had a few drug issues lately. A thread on TWT details some drug test failures surrounding the nationals. However none of the guys on this team have ever tested positive as far as I know.

Blanc failed a test. Who was the other person?

Do you have a link for the thread on TWT?

Brutus,

I think you underestimate our coaching. You brought up Humphrey getting thrown but as I watched flo's "path to Budapest" coverage after the Hump match I couldn't believe how spot on Zeke Jones' breakdown of the Iranians was. Every single thing he said the Iranians were going to do is exactly what the guy did to Humphrey. Sometimes you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. Sometimes you just can't stop what the other guy is doing.

It's not that the Iranians are that much stronger. It's how they wrestle. They have rock stances and they control the tie particularly the underhook and then they drive with their legs to the line and force you either into making a mistake or going out of bounds. It makes them look super strong because they win position battles and then drive. It also allows them to not give up passivity calls. It's exactly what Coach Jones was talking about.

No doubt Humphrey got his revenge against his first opponent with a super throw of his own after just getting getting thrown (which definitely caught my attention because I know how good Reece is in that position). I think the Europeans have more experience with throwing technique and the USA team in general, but Humphrey is one of the best USA wrestlers of all time when it comes to throwing. I think Hump felt comfortable but got beat. It's not a coincidence that he went right back to a throw position for a do-over, and won decisively in the process. I can't help but reflect back to Humprhey throwing Lou Riggerillo in Hofstra's home gym and actually lost a point for throwing. It was one of the best throws. I saw it coming thinking, as strong as Ruggerillo was he's in the wrong place at the wrong time against a super throw guy like Reece.
