Burroughs at 64 - Quiz for the Gurus

Recommended Posts

Two questions:

Does this count U.S. matches?

What is the record winning streak for senior level competition?

Extra credit:

1. What is the record streak among U.S. wrestlers?

2. What is the record streak without ever having a loss (as with Burroughs).

3. Am I correct in thinking that Burroughs never had a junior or cadet international match before he joined the senior ranks after graduating college?

He wrestled at Junior Worlds and placed seventh I believe (FILA site is down so can't check). The streak does include U.S. competition. Not sure about the record streak, but he's definitely passed John Smith by now who had 5 international losses over 7 years. I would guess that he has the U.S. record for contemporary wrestlers (last 30-40 years), and still well behind the world record. I assume we're just talking FS because Karelin has the record by a long shot. I believe Fadzaev had won a lot of consecutive matches before going up a weight class against Monday in '89. My guess for the most is Sergei Beloglazov, he didn't lose for around 6 years. No clue the amount of matches. The crazy thing is that it may be harder today to go undefeated - many people consider Satiev the greatest ever and he dropped matches throughout 2000s (though undefeated from 1995 to 1999 I believe).

FILA database has Burroughs wrestling in the Junior WC in 2008 at 66kg. finished 10. Hasanov, the Azeri he just beat finished 2nd. They didn't wrestle in the Juniors. a Russian named Gadzhiev won it. He later lost to Hasanov in the 2010 Euro championships at 66kg.

anyway, thats just from noodling around here http://www.foeldeak.com/wrestlingdataba ... anguage=en

its good resource with a nice, simple, quality interface.

Edit - Jaroslav beat me to it, but I'll be redundant.

Looks like he placed 10th in Juniors/2008

His DB entries are looking pretty sweet. Apart from the single entry as a junior, he is all 1s:
