LMS rules and caveats

Recommended Posts

Last Man Standing (non-All Americans)

Procedure:

1. Pick the wrestler (any weight) you think will go farthest into the season without a loss.

2. Pick a back-up, same criteria.

Rules:

1. Your choices must not have previously been All Americans (not just last year).

2. Your choices are out: a) if they lose, forfeit, or default; b) if they do not compete in one of the duals or tournaments in which at least five starters from their team are competing. (but see additional note below.)

Exceptions to the latter are All-Star exhibition participants who miss competitions on weekend of Nov 1-3.

3. You cannot pick the same wrestler as both 1st and 2nd choices.

4. You cannot pick the same two wrestlers in the same order as someone who has already picked.

5. A loss to a non-collegian or non-DI wrestler does not count.

Examples:

1. You pick Grajales and Tsirtsis as your 1&2. Another player picks Tsirtsis and Grajales, in that order. You are both in the game.

2. Grajales continues to win, but Tsirtsis loses in December. Another picker has Grajales and Andrew Alton and both are still alive. You are finished.

3. Grajales loses in December and Tsirtsis continues to win. You are done if there are any 1st choices still alive.

I propose that the picking commences this Sunday night (20 Oct) at midnight (EDT). Contest entries close at midnight (EDT) on Sunday, 27 Oct. This means that an entry posted at 12:01 on Monday, the 28th, doesn’t count.

Additional note: In past LMS contests many top wrestlers are eliminated early in the year because they are held out of opens or do not wrestle all of the matches in a one-day dual competition. It should not be the case that few are left after the first of the year because of non-participation.

So, this year in the LMS contest: 1) none of the some 30+ early season opens count against someone who does not enter. Those who enter and compete obviously face possible elimination. The first tournament that would follow the old rules would be the Cliff Keen Las Vegas tournament. Others that count in this way will be Reno, Midlands and the Southern Scuffle. 2) For one-day dual competitions a wrestler can skip one dual, but must participate in the rest of matches in which his school competes.

This is a D1 wrestler contest. Matches with non-D1 competition do not count.

Send your picks to the College Forum on The Mat.

I’ll keep a roster of picks and weekly updates.

A list of former All Americans (as best as I can figure) follows on another thread.

Please read the rules, especially as to start/finish time, or if you are challenged by words, have a fourth grader read it to you.

I'll go all PAC-12

Joey Palmer Oregon State

He is most likely to pick up a loss at one of these three tournaments.

Cliff Keen Las Vegas

RTOC

Southern Scuffle

If by some miracle (divine intervention will be required) he gets past these he'll run the table.

Kevin Radford ASU

Has a very light first half of the season and will possibly make it to the Southern Scuffle before he picks up a loss.

Oops, you jumped. Wait for the referee's whistle. Warning; next time it costs you a point.
