grapplefan 2 Report post Posted November 6, 2013 "an indicator of "delusions of grandeur" Colon will be very good this year if he keeps his grades up, but whether he contends with Ramos is another question. Beckman will be very good also. As you say, there is no track record yet.
ban_basketball 16 Report post Posted November 6, 2013 As you say, there is no track record yet. A voice of reason, indeed! Grades were not Colon's problems at UNI; they were fine. It was an attendance issue, and he had signed an agreement between himself and the coaches (and maybe the AD) that he would regularly attend class. LtWtLooker 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2013 I think quite a few of you have forgotten that this same screed was run on JO last year when he moved up 2 classes. Obviously he did better and claimed he did not need to go hungry so it was more fun. 38-0 13 F a bunch of TF and MD. I think Ramos would perform just as well, maybe better if he didn't need to fight the "hunger games". Top ten in each class I think 133 more difficult top 4 with Ramos would be 41. Could be I'm just looking for the Logan-Tony matchup
VakAttack 4,016 Report post Posted November 6, 2013 Tony Ramos is not a huge 133 lber like JO was, the cut is not really an issue.
OC_Hawk 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2013 Colon is clearly a good wrestler, but his only full D1 year he could not even beat Iowa's back up (Tyler Clark), also he did beat Devin in their first match but not their second. Tony lost to Devin in their first match and has beat him three times since. I'm not a scout, but not hard to scout these days. Good luck to UNI this year, I like them as a team just not sure why you want to set Colon up on this board..... I made a simple comment that I think that Colon's style could create problems for Ramos, and, therefore, Colon could beat Ramos. Anything after that benign comment is on others, not me. If you dig a little deeper, Tyler Clark also beat ANOTHER guy who is in this discussion as well, during a wrestle-off, or so I'm told. :P

Correct me if I have the wrong guy, search engine doesn't want to work this afternoon. Zadick undefeated #1 seed, 7th place 2002 I was on the floor when Zadick wrestled Jesse Jantzen in the consic. It was OT, Jesse just needed to escape. Zadick was on top. Boy did he look depressed. I truly sad look on his face, He knew the was no way he was going to hold him. And he didn't.

He had been so dominant all year, and then, to have a nightmare tournament. It just broke him. You could see it from the stands. I wasn't an Iowa fan, but you couldn't help but feel for the kid on a personal level. And of course, the national tournament is a shark tank: when there's blood in the water, there's no mercy. Old_Marine_Wrestler 245 Report post Posted December 31, 2013 and get Gilman and Clark both into the lineup @ 125 and 133? 141 is (apparently) a weaker spot for the Hawkeyes and Ramos showed that he can handle the weight by beating a ranked wrestler. Some say he beat Stieber last year with that cradle, perhaps he can do it officially? Or would a Tony Ramos national championship at 133 be more important than a team national championship and him losing in the finals to Stieber? Not to quote myself, but I'll quote myself. 2 losses at 133. Maybe he has a better shot at Steiber than Colon. Because even the great (no sarcasm) Steiber didn't run through and house Ramos like Colon did.

Even if he is awarded the 2 NF, he is still losing and he would still have lost. He has wrestled Stieber a half dozen times and is 0 for. I dont think Iowa can overtake PSU anyways, but moving Ramos up to 141 would definitely help with team points. I dont think you can argue that one. Iowa with no line up changes is now 125 Gilman, 133 Ramos, 141 Jeva, 149 Grothus (based on yesterday). Iowa WITH line up changes would be something like 125 Gilman, 133 Clark, 141 Ramos, 149 Jeva (replacing Kelly/Grothus). Not sure which is better. Also, I had Iowa over performing at Midlands at 125, 141, and 149, and under performing at 133, 184 and Hwt.

I was thinking Clark had the spot but Gilman had just wrestled in a few duals. If Gilman was the starter then I agree Iowa over performed at 125 but if Clark were the starter then I don't think you can say that. I only ask because at Big Tens and Nationals they are only able to enter one athlete.
cornercoach 448 Report post Posted December 31, 2013 Ramos isn't a lock at 133 as it stands. Graff is his only real competition, and if anyone denies him of the title it'll be Graff. Not sure it makes a great difference as I had Iowa at #4 at this weight before Midlands and I have them at #4 at this weight after Midlands. Iowa's biggest improvement (for me anyway) at Midlands isn't 125, it is Grothus at 149. He beat both Habat and T Shirts which I would have bet the farm he could not do.
