NYAC - where is everybody?

Recommended Posts

I was at the NYAC tournament, hoping and expecting to see Dake. But he was not there.

And he was not alone. Of the 21 guys in the top three in freestyle at any weight, only Hazewinkel and Rey there. Obe Blanc was there (I think) but not wrestling. Same for Varner. The exception was heavyweight where Rey and Fortune wrestled. (Fortune won easily). There were a lot of 5-8 ranked guys. Does anyone have an explanation. It would seem to be an easy tournament to get to, compared to those in Russia or Europe. Plenty of Japanese and Koreans were there. I would think that freestylers would be looking for ever chance to compete. Is it the lack of appearance fees? Or what?

Probably a number of people on the ladder are helping coach at various colleges and this is the part of the season where a lot of opens are going on, which means teams would need a lot of their coaches there to coach the various athletes.
