I must not have the MM history correct. I thought he sat out an entire year, forfeited his scholarship, ate a year of eligibility and had to work his way back in to the fold. Am I mistaken?

I seem to recall they lifted the suspension.

Wire is correct. Marion's Iowa profile is still on line and shows he never sat out an entire season. It does indicate that he "was reinstated to team Jan. 4, 2011, after being suspended from squad in May 2010" during his redshirt junior season.

As you may recall, the event that precipitated the above-mentioned suspension was Marion's arrest for DUI on May 4, 2010. The following day, the University of Iowa's Official Athletic Site, under the headline "Marion Permanently Suspended" quoted Associate AD Fred Mims as follows:

"Due to Montell's recent and previous violations of our student-athlete code of conduct, we have no choice at this point but to remove him from the Iowa wrestling program," said University of Iowa Associate Athletic Director for Student Services Fred Mims. "It is very unfortunate. Montell has demonstrated great potential as a student and a student-athlete. He is someone the program will miss greatly."

Apparently, a "permanent suspension" and removal from Iowa's program is the rough equivalent of a one-semester suspension from competition at other universities.
