What should Jenkins have done after Sanderson arrived?

Recommended Posts

College kids are dumb and immature. Bubba acted in a dumb and immature way.

Coaches are supposed to be role models and look out for the best interests of their student-athletes. Cael did not do this - he came in with a win-at-all-costs attitude. He's not accountable for Bubba's hairbrained response to the situation, but he could have made more of an effort to look out for the overall well-being of his new charge. There's more to a wrestling coaches' job than coaching wrestling.

Then in your opinion, what could Bubba have done to protect his own career? He wanted to go 157 or redshirt. Cael said absolutely not to 157. What else could he have possibly done? This is his life. Not sure why so many people are brainwashed that flunking a college course at PSU is somehow childish or "douchey" especially when it is literally the only way he could have saved the year of eligibility.

I was addressing Cael's behavior, not Bubba's.

3. Jenkins was pulled out of redshirt his freshman year by Sunderland. This was considered completely unnecessary by many PSU fans and a waste of a year of eligibility. This also caused Nathan Galloway to transfer out.

Not quite true. Galloway transferred out (flamed out?) before they pulled Bubba's shirt during the 2006-07 season.

Galloway wrestled (lost) a home dual on Dec 15

Bubba debuted at the VA Duals on Jan 7, going 3-1 up a class at 157.

* God bless the memory of Jay Hammond, who made data like this possible.

Those result strings seem to validate what I was saying more then anything else but if you don't want to take my word for it, here is the official press release. Note that this came out shortly after Jenkins was placed in the starting lineup at 157:

By Pat Donghia Penn State University

01/16/2007

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Nathan Galloway (State College, Pa.) has left the Nittany Lion wrestling team and has been given his release to transfer to another institution. The senior from State College informed head coach Troy Sunderland and his coaching staff of his decision early this week.

"We appreciate everything Nathan has done for our program during his years as a Nittany Lion," Sunderland said. "We are going to do everything we can to help him continue his academic and athletic careers and wish him the best."

Galloway is 14-7 this season. He leaves Penn State with a 90-54 career record.

I agree that it was a waste of a year for Bubba, but you stated that Bubba being pulled out of RS caused Galloway to transfer. It was the opposite. Galloway flamed out, making it necessary to bump Bubba up a weight class and pull his shirt.

Pathetic attempt to save face. Admit you were wrong and move on; spouting this gibberish just makes people question the value of a Lehigh education.

huh? are you really that stupid that you cannot correctly piece together a series of events chronologically? as can be tracked through the match histories previously posted, here's what happened:

1. Chertow's boy, Galloway, never materialized as the national title threat that everyone thought he would. Many thought he should have cut to 149 to truly be an effective collegian.

2. Galloway struggled terribly in the first semester as the PSU starter at 157.

3. Galloway got his release at the end of the Fall semester and transferred to Rider.

4. PSU pulled Bubba, a 149 pounder, out of RS for the Virginia Duals to become their regular 157 the second week of January.

Where in that process does it remotely make any sense that a 149 in RS would be the reason for the starting 157 to transfer out? Clearly, pulling Bubba out of RS was necessary b/c there was not an effective backfill for Galloway at 157.

Also keep in mind that Galloway couldn't start to compete for the Broncs until he started classes - so, of course, PSU's press release was dated in mid-January. Galloway made his debut for Rider on 19-Jan. Do you really think he left PSU on 16-Jan and wrestled for Rider 3 days later? If you think so, then you're pretty naïve. Clearly Galloway left PSU when Fall classes were complete and headed for South Jersey.

wow, absurd ad hominem. being a proper number one requires a certain degree of magnanimity. relax and enjoy being at the top. this type of attitude is poor form indeed.

Jaroslav, you should do some homework before just automatically taking the side of someone that is arguing with me. There is a lot of history here as Lu Alum has on numerous occasions posted personal attacks on PSU wrestlers and other team's wrestlers on this forum. Look at the venom in the way he talks about Galloway, he just can't help but disrespect these young men. Not exactly the type of individual you would want to align yourself with. If it wasn't for this, I would probably be willing to debate him in a more civil manner.

Bubba should have told Sanderson to stuff it, transferred, and stuck David Taylor in the NCAA finals.

I like Cael but everyone makes mistakes. He handled the situation badly and it came back to bite him and Taylor.
