Unstoppable moves

Recommended Posts

I've always been fascinated by guys who have a main go-to move that everyone knows is coming from a mile away but nobody can stop. The guys who can keep improving their go-to move even after they have great success with it sometimes go on to have immediate international success, e.g. John Smith and his low single, Jordan Burroughs and his double, Stephen Neal and his freight train double, Nate Carr and his duck under, etc.

I've been very impressed with Jesse Delgado's low single. He hits it on everyone and it keeps getting better. If he can keep his weight down, I wonder if he's our next international star. 55 kg in freestyle looks wide open for him, and his TD-focused style should translate very well to freestyle.

Who else has this kind of potential right now?

Plenty of people stop his double. The fact that Burroughs can switch from a stuffed double to a world-class single leg makes Burroughs special.

Guys who are really good at the front headlock, in freestyle, seem pretty unstoppable once the get it. If Mavlet Batirov got you in a front headlock, he was going to score on you. The same went for Dave Schultz.

As for GR, Karelins reverse lift was unstoppable in his prime. When he got on Top, everyone knew it was coming, and they only had one means of defense: to roll over and get pinned, just so you would not have to undergo the horror of his reverse lift. Damn! That's just awesome if you think about it.

Inside Trip – Jessie Reyes (Pur)

Foot Sweep - Steve Mocco (Iowa/OSU)

Boot scoot duck under – Lincoln Mac (Iowa)

Crab ride half nelson tilt variations – the aforementioned Mean Gene Mills, Troy Letters (Leh), Jesse Jantzen (Harv), DT (PSU), Cael was also quite good with this

Variations of rear head & arm (strangle choke/snapper hold) - Corey Olson (Neb), Nick Simmons (Mich St), and more recently James Fleming (Clar) Taylor Massa (Mich)

Let’s not forget the Mike Zadick unstoppable run across the mat - across the arena to the locker room move following a loss. Even Tom & Terry Brands, with ~9 NCAA/World titles between them, could not stop that move!!

Not sure I've seen one more surefire than Sanderson's ankle pick. Opponents landed flat on their butts.

Ban, you could've substituted "Medicine Man's" for "Sanderson's" in your first sentence and your example would've been just as accurate, although somewhat less recognized. Taylor has it down fairly unstoppable also.

How about Churella's cradle?

LOL

Missouri's Joey Lavallee has this move down pat, only he extended it to win, lose or draw. :D

Why the shot at Joey?? Do you know him or something?

No one has mentioned Askren's cradle series. 54 people found it pretty unstoppable his last two years, including Gavin - twice!

In the international world:

Gayzumov's distinctive sweep single is pretty effective against just about everyone. As is Aldatov's cross ankle and Mashgarvilli's high gut. Goygeerev's shrug by is incredible but it remains to be seen if it will remain unstoppable now that everyone knows its coming. Asgrarov also had a great shrug, hopefully he comes back soon.

No shot at him, just an observation. It looks like he has too much energy not to run off the mat and out the gym. He is awesome!
