NJDan 1,061 Report post Posted January 2, 2014 Looks like PSU has this year's Scuffle won-- going into the finals with a 30 point lead. Is there any history of a team losing an in-season tourney (as Minny and OSU will have done) and turning around and winning the NCAAs?
ocho 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2014 Yes it has happened. Teams have lost the Big Ten Tournament and then won nationals.

JohnnyThompsonnum1 101 Report post Posted January 2, 2014 Yes it has happened. Teams have lost the Big Ten Tournament and then won nationals. On an individual level there have been wrestlers that have been beaten out at early season tournaments, and yet make All American. Matter of fact J Jagger was beaten out of at least one tournament if not two tournaments his senior year when he won his second NCAA championship. He always felt jipped by the rankings and was rather outspoken on the issue. He more than proved himself two years in a row, but it's hard to keep someone's ranking really high when they are getting beat out of early season tournaments and losing to lower ranked wrestlers. I admired how he was able to show everyone up and silence all the doubters, but never did understand why he felt a serious case of injustice for where he was ranked. After all his senior year he was seeded #3, only behind Kellan Russell and Zach Tanelli, who both finished ahead of him in the BIG 10. He was ranked and seeded accordingly as far as I'm concerned. jstock 125 Report post Posted January 2, 2014 With the Altons still to come back it is almost a lock for PSU. Absolutely FALSE - There is no such thing as a lock. Kids can get hurt, get in trouble or other teams can get on a roll. Will have to see if the Altons are 100% Iowa looked good at Midlands and Minn may rebound from their "tent folding" at the Scuffle. Missouri finished third after Max Askren went 2-BBQ at Nationals...

The man used the word "almost", but you seem to have ignored that part of his post. And to augment his comment, if you think adding the Altons does not have the possibility of adding a lot of points then I think you are not being realistic. Andrew majors both 149's that wrestled for Penn State in the Scuffle, and Dylan majors Vollrath.
